Pro Kabaddi 2024: "An era comes to an end"- PKL franchise bids farewell to coach after failure to qualify for playoffs

Pro Kabaddi 2024 fight for playoffs ended on Tuesday, December 24. Former champions U Mumba became the sixth team to qualify for the next round. Meanwhile, six teams have been eliminated from the tournament and one of them, Gujarat Giants, have ended their association with coach Ram Mehar Singh.

Gujarat Giants shared a video on their X handle to announce the departure of Ram Mehar Singh from the franchise. Singh led the Patna Pirates to the PKL championship in season five, but the Gujarat-based franchise could not win a single trophy under his coaching.

Singh joined the Gujarat Giants as their head coach ahead of the ninth season. He was the head coach for three years, where the Giants qualified for the playoffs only once - in season 10. Announcing Singh's departure, the Giants wrote on x:

"An era comes to an end Thank you, Coach Ram Mehar Singh, for building a team of Giants with passion and purpose.

Talking about Gujarat Giants' performance in Pro Kabaddi 2024, they finished 11th in the points table with only five victories from 22 matches. They lost 14 matches, while three games ended in a draw. The Giants ended the season with a disappointing score difference of -152 and 38 points on the board.

Gujarat Giants team owners will have to make some big decisions ahead of Pro Kabaddi 2025. First and foremost, the Giants will have to hunt for a new coach, who can help the team win their maiden PKL trophy.

Then, they will have to decide which players to retain for the next season. It was a forgettable season for the team, but all-rounder Jitender Yadav impressed in the defense. He earned 56 tackle points from 19 matches, ensuring the Giants troubled the opposition raiders during the tournament.
