In a surprising development, Patna Pirates have released their head coach Narender Redhu just three hours after losing in Pro Kabaddi 2024 Final against the Haryana Steelers. The Pirates made the announcement via an Instagram post.
The Pro Kabaddi 2024 Final was held on December 29 in Pune, where Haryana Steelers beat the Patna Pirates 32-23. It is pertinent to note that not many fans expected Patna to even qualify for the playoffs after the auction, but the team made it to the final. Hence, Narender Redhu received a lot of praise.
However, it looks like the runner-up finish did not impress the owners as they have let go of Redhu immediately. Announcing the release of their head coach, the Patna Pirates wrote on Instagram:
"It’s the end of an era! With gratitude and respect, we announce the release of our Head Coach Narender Redhu!"
Redhu joined the Patna Pirates as their head coach in Season 10. Under his guidance, the team qualified for the playoffs in Seasons 10 and 11. The Pirates narrowly missed out on the trophy in the 11th season.
Who will replace Narender Redhu as the head coach of Patna Pirates?
The dates for the 2025 Pro Kabaddi League auction should come out soon. By then, the Patna Pirates will hunt for a new head coach. Redhu did a fantastic job, and it will be challenging for the next coach to match his performance.
Perhaps, the Pirates can go back to Ram Mehar Singh, who has been released by the Gujarat Giants. Other probable options include former World Cup-winning captain Anup Kumar as well as Rakesh Kumar, who has captained the Pirates in the past.
Prashanth Kumar Rai worked as an assistant coach for the Pirates this season. The team owners can even consider promoting him to the head coach's position.
