U Mumba coach Gholamreza Mazandarani has commented on his team's upcoming Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) match against Puneri Paltan. He admitted that Pune are a very difficult team to play against, but at the same time, expects his men to perform well if they stick to their plans.
The Pune leg of Pro Kabaddi 2024 will kick off tonight in the Badminton Hall at the Balewadi Sports Complex. Two matches will take place on the opening day of Pune leg. Bengaluru Bulls will take on Gujarat Giants at 8 pm IST, followed by a clash between home team Puneri Paltan and arch-rivals U Mumba from 9 pm IST onwards.
Since both franchises are from Maharashtra, the Puneri Paltan vs U Mumba game of PKL is known as the 'Maha Derby'. Sharing his views on the big game, Gholamreza Mazandarani said at a press briefing:
“The Puneri Paltan are a very difficult team to play against and in front of their home fans, they will be more motivated for sure, but U Mumba is going to come prepared, just like we plan and work for every game. It is important for us to execute our plans well and play with discipline."
Puneri Paltan battled U Mumba once during the Hyderabad leg of PKL 2024 and defeated them 35-28. The Mumbai-based franchise will be out for revenge at the Balewadi Sports Complex tonight.
"PKL Season 11 has been one of the toughest we have seen so far" - Puneri Paltan coach BC Ramesh
Puneri Paltan coach BC Ramesh was also present at the media event ahead of the Pune leg's first matchday. His team won the trophy in season 10, but right now, they are fifth in the season 11 points table. Sharing his views on the season so far, Ramesh said:
“PKL Season 11 has been one of the toughest we have seen so far. But, now in Pune, the Puneri Paltan, are keen to ensure that we make proper plans for all our opponents, and more importantly execute them perfectly. It is a good opportunity for us to be playing in front of our own fans."
It will be interesting to see if Puneri Paltan can qualify for the playoffs. They will play seven matches in front of their home crowd over the next few weeks. If the defending champions perform well, they can make it to the playoffs round, which will also happen in Pune.
