UP Yoddhas skipper Sumit Sangwan has picked his all-time playing seven of the Pro Kabaddi League. Interestingly, Sangwan selected the Record Breaker Pardeep Narwal in his team but he had no place for Hi-Flier Pawan Sehrawat or the Showman Rahul Chaudhari.
In an exclusive chat with Sportskeeda, Sumit Sangwan was asked to pick his all-time playing seven. He started by naming former Dabang Delhi KC star Ravinder Pahal as the right corner, with U Mumba captain Sunil Kumar being the right cover.
For the left cover position, Sumit picked former Bengaluru Bulls all-rounder Manjeet Chhillar, and he completed the defense by picking himself as the left corner.
In the raid unit, Sumit picked legendary raiders Anup Kumar and Rakesh Kumar along with current Bengaluru Bulls captain Pardeep Narwal. Here is his all-time seven.
Sumit Sangwan's all-time PKL 7: Ravinder Pahal (right corner), Sunil Malik (right cover), Manjeet Chhillar (left cover), Sumit Sangwan (left corner), Anup Kumar (right in), Rakesh Kumar (left in) and Pardeep Narwal (center).
"The captain of the team is Surender Gill only" - Sumit Sangwan clarifies he is the stand-in skipper of UP Yoddhas in PKL 11
Sumit Sangwan has been leading the UP Yoddhas in recent matches of Pro Kabaddi League 2024. The team has performed well under his leadership. When asked about his experience of captaining the Yoddhas, Sumit replied:
"The captain of the team is Surender Gill only. He is injured right now. So, he is our captain right now as well and he will only lead the team in the future. Someone had to be named as captain when he was unavailable, so coach sir gave me that role. I said, 'It's okay. I will do it.' I am feeling very good right now that the team has been doing well in recent matches."
UP Yoddhas are fourth in the Pro Kabaddi 2024 points table right now, having won seven out of their 14 matches so far in the tournament. The Yoddhas have registered six losses and one tie in their other seven games.
Reflecting on the team's performance so far, Sumit said:
"The positive thing for our team is that whichever matches we have lost, we have lost by one or two points or a very close margin. We will try that the teams against whom we lost by close margins, we will try to defeat them the next time when we play against them. Our team is good, we can do that."
UP Yoddhas recently avenged their previous defeat against the Jaipur Pink Panthers in Noida. In the Revenge Week of Pro Kabaddi 2024, the Yoddhas beat the Pink Panthers by a close margin of 33-29, rising to fourth in the points table.
The Yoddhas will enjoy a short break from PKL action now as their next fixture is against the in-form Telugu Titans team in Pune on December 4. It will be interesting to see if the Yoddhas qualify for the 2024 Pro Kabaddi League playoffs.
