Former champions Bengal Warriors have ended their association with head coach K Baskaran ahead of the 11th Pro Kabaddi League season. Baskaran joined the Warriors coaching staff in Season 9. He remained the coach till the end of the 10th season, where the Warriors attained the seventh position.
In K Baskaran's first season as head coach, the Bengal Warriors finished 11th in the points table. Although there was an improvement in the performance in Baskaran's second season, the Warriors have decided to move on.
Announcing K Baskaran's departure via an Instagram post, the Bengal Warriors thanked the coach for his work, writing:
"We’ll always be grateful for your leadership and guidance, Baskaran sir. 🙌 Thank you for all the lessons, they’ll always be our guiding light!"
The post from Bengal Warriors has received more than 3,000 likes in just a few hours. Several fans have left a comment as well, expressing their gratitude to the coach and also asking the franchise about Baskaran's successor.
Will K Baskaran join another Pro Kabaddi League franchise as the head coach?
The Pro Kabaddi League auction will be held later this year. Ahead of the auction, all teams have been making changes to their respective coaching groups. Tamil Thalaivas recently appointed Udaya Kumar as their head coach, while they also roped in Dharmaraj Cheralathan as the strategy coach.
Baskaran has enormous experience of coaching in kabaddi. He was the coach of the Jaipur Pink Panthers team that won the maiden PKL trophy back in 2014, while in Season 4, he helped Puneri Paltan finish fourth. India even won the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup under Baskaran's guidance.
After a stint with the Tamil Thalaivas, Baskaran took a hiatus from kabaddi coaching. He returned to the league as Bengal's coach in Season 9. It will be interesting to see if he moves to another team before Season 11.
