Nitin Tomar was purchased by Puneri Paltan in season six auction for ₹1.15 crore. The youngster responded with decent performances as he collected 102 points from 11 games last season. However, the Pune franchise decided not to retain the player ahead of season seven and allowed him to enter the auction.

In season seven auction, Puneri Paltan brought back the player by shelling out ₹1.20 crore and also using one of their FBM cards on him.

This edition did not begin well for Nitin as he was sidelined for the first two legs due to a muscle pull. The team also suffered due to the lack of an experienced raider at this stage of the tournament.

After returning to the mat, Nitin found it difficult to regain his form and often remained as the deputy for young Manjeet and Pankaj Mohite. He collected just the 73 points from 15 games this season and hence, he cost the Puneri Paltan ₹1.64 lakh per point this season.
