The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) in 2016 was unique in its own sense, as the league was held twice that year. Season 3, played from January to March, saw the emergence of Patna Pirates as a dominant force in the competition.

Patna clinched their maiden title by defeating defending champions U Mumba 31-28 in a closely contested final. This triumph set the stage for their incredible run, as they went on to defend the title in subsequent seasons, winning in Seasons 4 and 5 as well.

Let’s delve into the standout performances of the top raiders and defenders who lit up PKL Season 3.

In the raiding department, Pardeep Narwal stole the show with a sensational debut season for Patna Pirates. After moving from Bengaluru Bulls, Pardeep amassed 116 raid points in 16 games, propelling his team to their first title and claiming the top spot on the raid points leaderboard.

Following him was U Mumba’s Rishank Devadiga, who scored 106 raid points in 16 games. Rohit Kumar, another key contributor for Patna, secured third place with 102 raid points in just 12 games.

Other notable raiders included Rahul Chaudhari, who finished fourth with 87 raid points in 13 matches, and Bengal Warriorz’s fan-favorite Jang Kun Lee, who took fifth with 79 raid points.

Lee’s teammate Nitin Tomar followed closely with 77 raid points, securing the sixth position. U Mumba captain Anup Kumar claimed the seventh spot with 76 raid points in 13 matches while Kashiling Adake (75), Deepak Niwas Hooda (69), and Surjeet Singh (68) rounded off the top ten.

On the defensive side, Puneri Paltan’s veteran Manjeet Chhillar dominated the charts with 61 tackle points in 15 games.

Sandeep Narwal of Patna Pirates was instrumental in their title-winning campaign, finishing second with 55 tackle points in 14 games. Supporting Manjeet at Pune, Surjeet Singh secured third place with 48 tackle points in 12 games.

The joint-fourth position was shared by Mohit Chhillar of U Mumba and Jasmer Singh Gulia of Puneri Paltan, both tallying 46 tackle points. Bengal Warriorz had a strong defensive presence, with Bajirao Hodage (37), Nilesh Shinde (34), and Girish Ernak (33) claiming sixth, seventh, and eighth places, respectively.

Iranian defender Fazel Atrachali made his mark for U Mumba with 32 tackle points, sharing the ninth spot with Delhi’s Sandeep Dhull.
