Two-time finalists Gujarat Giants failed to get going in Pro Kabaddi 2024. The Ahmedabad-based franchise finished 11th in the points table with only five victories in 22 matches. The Giants recorded 14 defeats and three ties in the other 17 games.
It was one of the worst seasons for the Gujarat Giants in Pro Kabaddi League 2024. Despite entering the auction with the highest purse value remaining, the Giants could not assemble a strong squad, and it eventually resulted in the team's early exit from the competition.
The Giants have already ended their association with coach Ram Mehar Singh. Thus, it should not be a surprise if they release the following five players ahead of the next PKL Auction.
#1 Gujarat Giants might release their most expensive player - Guman Singh
As mentioned ahead, the Gujarat Giants entered the Pro Kabaddi 2024 auction with the highest purse value remaining - ₹4.08 crore to be precise. Many fans expected the Giants to go hard for players like Mohammadreza Shadloui, Pardeep Narwal, and Pawan Sehrawat at the auction. However, the Giants decided to spend ₹1.97 crore for Guman Singh.
While Guman did not do a bad job for the Giants, he could not justify his enormous price tag. Guman earned 161 points in 22 matches, but he might be released because of his price tag.
#2 Neeraj Kumar
Pro Kabaddi 2024 was probably the worst season of Neeraj Kumar's career. The former Patna Pirates defender committed too many errors while playing for the Giants.
Coach Ram Mehar Singh took away captaincy from Neeraj midway during the season because of his disappointing performance. With only 21 tackle points in 18 matches, Neeraj is unlikely to get another contract from the Giants.
#3 Mohammad Nabibakhsh
Despite receiving so much support from coach Ram Mehar Singh, Iranian all-rounder Mohammad Nabibakhsh failed to impress once again in the Gujarat Giants jersey. He managed only 11 points in 15 matches.
The Giants had released Nabibakhsh before PKL 11, but re-signed him for ₹13.8 lakh. The Giants may prefer ending their association with Nabibakhsh ahead of PKL 12.
#4 Monu
Monu has played 107 matches in Pro Kabaddi League, but has earned only 230 points. The all-rounder averages 1.04 raid points per match and 0.94 successful tackles per match.
It seemed like the Gujarat Giants went for him because they wanted an experienced name in the squad. The Giants team management backed him by giving him seven matches, but the all-rounder could only seven points.
#5 Vahid Rezaeimehr
When Gujarat fought a bidding war and signed Iranian defender Vahid Rezaeimehr for ₹17.1 lakh at the auction, quite a few fans were excited to see him play on the mat. However, Vahid let the fans down with his ordinary performances.
Gujarat Giants gave nine matches to Vahid, where he returned with six points only. He attempted for 17 tackles, and 11 of them were unsuccessful. The Giants should vacate their overseas spots by releasing Nabibakhsh and Vahid and try to sign other talented foreigners at the next PKL auction.
