The Patna Pirates ended Pro Kabaddi 2024 as the runner-up. The Pirates qualified for the final for the first time after the eighth season but failed to win the championship. They lost against the Haryana Steelers by 23-32 in the final at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex.
It was a memorable season for the Patna-based franchise as they shut the mouths of their doubters with their fantastic performances on the mat. Not many expected Patna to even make it to the playoffs this season, but they went all the way to the final.
Surprisingly, the Patna Pirates have released their head coach Narender Redhu after losing in the final. However, here's a list of five players which the Pirates might retain for the next season.
#1 Patna Pirates will likely retain Devank Dalal
The Pirates found a new game-changer in Devank Dalal this season. Previously, Devank would only warm the benches at the Jaipur Pink Panthers, but this season, he got regular opportunites in the Pirates jersey and he made them count.
Dalal scored 301 raid points in the tournament. He deservedly won the Best Raider award, and it will be a huge blunder if the Pirates let him go ahead of the next auction.
#2 Ayan Lohchab
Another young raider who stole the show in the Patna Pirates jersey this season was Ayan Lohchab. The left raider joined the Pirates as a New Young Player and finished in the Top 5 of the raiders' leaderboard.
With 184 raid points in 25 matches, Ayan attained the fifth position in the Most Raid Points. Since he is an NYP category player, Patna will likely keep him in the squad for the next season.
#3 Ankit Jaglan
Captain Ankit Jaglan played a massive role in the Pirates' journey to the finals. He was the best defender of the team, having earned 79 tackle points in 25 matches. His average was more than three tackle points per match.
Ankit joined the Pirates ahead of the 10th season. Since then, he has taken care of the left corner position brilliantly. Patna should undoubtedly retain him for the next season.
#4 Deepak Singh
Right cover defender Deepak Singh emerged as a surprise performer for the Pirates this season. Deepak silently did his job in the team's defense, scoring 64 tackle points in 25 matches.
Notably, Deepak recorded four High 5s and also executed a super tackle. Plus, he also chipped in with 12 raid points, including a couple of super raids.
#5 Gurdeep
All-rounder Gurdeep proved himself as a big-match player in the playoffs. He did not have a great outing in the league round, but the Pirates still backed him and picked him as their left cover defender in the playoffs.
Gurdeep earned six tackle points in the final against the Haryana Steelers. Before that, he scored a High 5 against the U Mumba in the Eliminator. It is hard for any player to record two High 5s in knockout matches of the same season.
Thus, Patna Pirates should retain Gurdeep for the next Pro Kabaddi League tournament.
