The Haryana Steelers have been a powerhouse in Pro Kabaddi League 2024, and their journey to the final has been nothing short of spectacular. After finishing first in the league stage and securing a narrow 28-25 win over the UP Yoddhas in the semi-finals, the Steelers are now set to face the three-time champions Patna Pirates in the PKL 11 final at the Balewadi Stadium, Pune, on Sunday, December 29.

The final promises to be an epic showdown, with tempers flaring between the two sides in their previous encounters this season. Heated exchanges during the league stage and pointed comments from both camps have turned this into a budding rivalry that fans will be eager to witness.

On that note, here are three reasons why the Haryana Steelers have the upper hand and could win their maiden PKL title.

#3 Confidence from finishing first in the league stage

When you finish first in the league stage, it’s not just about points; it’s about making a statement. The Haryana Steelers came into this tournament with unfinished business after falling short last season. Under the watchful eyes of coach Manpreet Singh, they’ve been relentless, winning 16 out of 22 matches.

You don’t dominate like that unless every single player pulls their weight. And that’s exactly what the Steelers have done. Their semi-final victory against the UP Yoddhas is an example of the same as they clinched a hard-fought 28-25 win to secure their place in the final.

#2 Better head-to-head record against Patna Pirates in PKL 11

The Haryana Steelers hold a psychological edge over the Patna Pirates, having defeated them twice during the league stage. The first clash saw Haryana secure a 37-32 win, followed by a thrilling 42-36 victory in their second encounter.

The second match, in particular, was laden with drama, marked by heated exchanges and controversies. The intense rivalry between the two sides only adds to the Steelers’ motivation to continue their dominance over the Pirates.

#3 Strongest defense

If there’s one area where the Haryana Steelers have truly set themselves apart, it’s their defense. It's the kind of defense that makes raiders think twice or thrice, maybe even four times before venturing into enemy territory.

Leading the charge is none other than Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh. The left-corner sensation has been an absolute wall this season, racking up 77 tackle points in 23 matches. On the other hand, Rahul Sethpal has been equally impressive, racking up 70 tackle points. That Super Tackle from him in the dying minutes of the semis is the reason behind Haryana making it to the finals.

And don’t forget the cover combination of Jaideep Dahiya and Sanjay. Together, this quartet has been the backbone of Haryana’s campaign. They’ve made even the best raiders look ordinary, and if they turn up tonight, it’s game over for Patna.
