Albeit the loss to Patna Warriors, there seemed to be a silver lining for the Dabang Delhi last night. Star raider Surjeet Narwal was seen warming up with the team. While he remained unavailable for comment, SportsKeeda reached out to the team’s captain – Ravinder Pahal, who sounded optimistic about the return of his star raider.
“He has been recovering well. I see him spending time with Dr Sandeep Kumar and our physio – Russel (Pinto) and from what we can gauge, it won’t be long before he starts for us,” revealed Ravinder.
Emphasising on the importance of the seasoned campaigner, he asserted, “It’s not that our raiders (Kashiling Adake and Rohit Kumar Chaudhary) aren’t doing well but if Surjeet plays, it will become a different ball game altogether. He is one of the most feared and respected players in the country and whenever he is fit, it would be a massive boost to the team.”
Coach Honnappa C Gowda too conceded that Narwal’s return is nigh, “He is recovering well. It’s almost been 3-4 months that he has been out of action and we didn’t want to rush him either. The doctors and the physio think he is nearing full fitness and as soon as he is match fit, we will draft him into the team.”
Asked if one of the current raiders would be dropped to accommodate him, he added, “Not necessarily, our raiders have actually done pretty decently so far. Considering how adept he is in defence too, we might actually start with a 3-pronged attack when he is fit though.”
Surely Narwal’s presence shall augur well for all of Honnappa and the rest of the Dabang think-tank for him; unlike any other player in the squad has the capability of taking on opponents and turning matches on their heads.
