Pro Kabaddi League 2017 Season 5 : Five talking points from Day 60 of PKL 5

The Bengaluru Bulls eased past the Tamil Thalaivas in Thursday's Pro Kabaddi League encounter. The away side dominated from the get-go and never let the Thalaivas back into the match. With this win, the Bulls kept their chances for a playoff spot alive. Here are the major talking points from tonight's one-sided affair.

#1 Bottom of the table and understandably so

Thursday's Pro Kabaddi encounter saw two teams perched well at the bottom of Zone B take the mat. The Thalaivas and the Bulls have both been handed multiple lessons by almost every single team in the league.

A sympathetic voice may emerge from this disappointment but the fact is, both these teams deserve to be where they are - at the bottom.

Far too many times they've been careless and defence and have lacked spirit in attack and it was evident again today. The match was by no means great to watch. It was a case of one weak team (Bengaluru) making the most of their opponent's lack of hunger.

#2 Losses haunting the Thalaivas

There was no way out for Thalaivas

Five losses on the trot and that too on home soil, Tamil Thalaivas have had to endure a painful week. Their poor performances reached its zenith on Thursday. Up against an equally appalling Bengaluru Bulls, the home side seemed despondent and discouraged, courtesy of those five losses.

As a result, what was expected to be a closely fought encounter, turned out to be a one-sided affair. Tamil Thalaivas just didn't show up and deservedly received a battering for doing so. They were completely dismantled by a Bengaluru team playing for honour.

#3 Careless Thalaiavas only have themselves to blame

The Thalaivas tried but their attempts to claw back into the game was too little too late. At one point in the game, they were trailing by a massive 21 points and looked like they were about to be at the receiving end of an ugly drubbing.

But with five minutes left on the clock, Thalaivas went full throttle in their attempt to mount a comeback. They even managed to reduce the deficit from 21 to 11 and gave the home crowd something to cheer for and look forward to.

But there was too much ground to make up and too little time to do it. Bengaluru eventually registered a well-deserved victory.

#4 Rare ray of hope for Bengaluru Bulls

Bengaluru were refreshingly dominant

Since season 5 began, the Bengaluru Bulls had managed just four wins in 17 games. They suffered heavy losses and even when they did win, they had to dig deep and were made to work extremely hard for it.

But tonight, we witnessed something never seen before. Bengaluru dominating and dominating from minute one.

They put the Thalaivas to the sword with some fine defending. The Bulls punished the home side for every single mistake and at the end of forty minutes, they managed to secure a memorable 10-point win.

#5 Tamil Thalaivas out of contention for the playoffs

The debutants are out of season 5

If it wasn't evident before, it became crystal clear tonight. Tamil Thalaiavs are officially out of contention for a spot in the playoff in Pro Kabaddi season 5. Their loss against Bengaluru on Thursday was their thirteenth in nineteen games.

Only Delhi have suffered more losses than them (14). It's tempting to feel sorry for the southern outfit but the fact remains that they were poor and hardly made an effort to change their fortunes.

The Thalaivas are a young side and must be cut some slack for the same. A couple of experienced campaigners next season will help them immensely.
