One of the most popular sports leagues in India, Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) has garnered an excellent fanbase and immense popularity over the past decade, courtesy of the competition’s innovative format and its high-profile players.

The franchise-based league, similar to the Indian Premier League (IPL) for cricket, has 12 teams competing against each other in an exciting round-robin format, followed by playoffs and a final.

Strolling down memory lane, PKL started with eight franchises in 2014, and four new teams joined the competition in 2017. The league aims to increase the sport's popularity among the Indian audience.

After the huge success of the inaugural season in 2014, PKL had its second season from June to September 2015. That said, let’s take a look at the Pro Kabaddi League Season 2 captains and where they are now.

After his retirement, he joined Telugu Titans as the assistant coach. He won gold medals in the Asian Games 2010 and 2014 editions, and in the World Cup 2016. Currently, he is serving as the brand ambassador of the inaugural IPKL season and the Delhi Kabaddi League.

Anup Kumar led U Mumba in the first five PKL editions and later joined Jaipur Pink Panthers in the 2018 edition. In December 2018, he announced his retirement from competitive sport, ending his 15-year sporting career.

Later after his retirement, he was roped in by Puneri Paltan as the coach. Moreover, he was also seen as an expert in the Star Sports panel. Additionally, he was appointed as a selector and the coach of the junior Indian kabaddi team.

Playing for the Titans in PKL 2022, ‘The Hawk’ could bag only one point from four matches. Later, in PKL 2023 and PKL 2024 Player Auctions, he went unsold.

#4 Wazir Singh (Puneri Paltan)

After Wazir Singh led Puneri Paltan in the second edition of the PKL, he shifted his base to Dabang Delhi KC and Haryana Steelers in the later seasons. However, he couldn’t find any bids later from the seventh edition.
