In what comes as a major setback to the Dabang Delhi team here in Mumbai, star raider Surjeet Narwal has been tentatively ruled out of their season opener vs Telegu Titans later today. Nursing a recurring injury that he suffered during the National Games in Trivandrum earlier this year, the India international from Sonepat seems to be taking longer than expected to recover.
Confirming the same, Head Coach Honnappa C Gowda conceded that the team would have to make-do with someone else, “He (Surjeet) is carrying a minor injury and hence we might not risk him.”
He however affirmed, that the rest of the squad is in prime condition and the void created by Surjeet wouldn’t be felt, “The other boys are equally prepared. There is no reason why they can’t do as well if not better than him.
“Before anything else, it’s an opportunity for others to stamp their authority and cement their place in the team.”
With 113 points, Surjeet had been Delhi’s best raider last season. That tally though, which was 5th best in the league, was also matched by teammate Kashiling Adake and he will be key to the team’s fortunes tonight. If he can inspire his teammates to a win, his more illustrious compatriot will be welcomed with much confidence and gusto.
