On Wednesday night (October 23), the Tamil Thalaivas will take on the Puneri Paltan for the 11th match of the ongoing Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) season. The two teams will battle it out at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium.
The Thalaivas and the Paltan have both gotten their campaigns off to a winning start, with the former dominating the Telugu Titans for their season opener. Pune, meanwhile, downed the Haryana Steelers and the Patna Pirates with ease.
The Tamil Thalaivas come into PKL 11 after an underwhelming performance last year and look keen to make up for it. Led by Sagar Rathe, the team collected 44 points against the Titans, with raiders Narender Kandola and Sachin Tanwar stealing the show, scoring 10 points apiece.
The Thalaivas looked solid on the defensive end as well, holding off their opponents with relative ease. Rathee, defending in the right corner, led the side well, and was aided in his efforts by Abhishek Manokaran, Sahil Gulia, and Nitesh Kumar.
On the other hand, the Puneri Paltan have maintained their trophy-winning momentum from last year and are hungry to be the first team in the league to defend their title. Their opening game saw them take down the Haryana Steelers in a repeat of last season's final before they put up a clinical show to beat the Patna Pirates.
With Aslam Inamdar steering the ship, the Paltan have proven to be a cohesive unit despite the glaring lack of all-rounder Mohammad Reza Shadloui from their roster. They have proven they have impressive depth as a team, making them intimidating opponents whenever they're on the mat.
Outside of Inamdar, Pune's early matches have seen Pankaj Mohite and Mohit Goyat establish themselves as the team's top raiders while Gaurav Khatri and Aman form a formidable force on the defense.
PKL 2024: Tamil Thalaivas vs Puneri Paltan prediction
With their status as the defending champions combined with their incredible start to the PKL season, the Puneri Paltan remain the ones to beat, but it looks unlikely that the Tamil Thalaivas will live up to the task.
Pune are fielding a formidable team intent on winning, and have previously won six of their 11 contests against the Thalaivas, with the latter winning three, while two matches ended in a tie.
On Wednesday night, the Paltan look well poised to extend their lead in the head-to-head record.
Prediction: Puneri Paltan to win this PKL 2024 match.
