The UP Yoddhas (UP) and the Jaipur Pink Panthers (JAI) face off in the 81st match of PKL 11 on Thursday, November 28, at the Noida Indoor Stadium.
This clash between the seventh and eighth-placed teams on the points table should help clear a very congested race for the top six, with only seven points separating the teams in second and eighth positions, and it's not going to take much for those positions to change.
In terms of form, the Yoddhas lost heavily to the Tamil Thalaivas in their previous outing, with Ashu Singh's High 5 and some good raiding momentum for Gagan Gowda the only positives. On the other hand, another Arjun Deshwal special helped the Jaipur Pink Panthers secure a huge 37-23 win over the defending champions Puneri Paltan.
Let's now look at three potential Dream11 surprise picks for this fixture.
#3 Abhijeet Malik (ALL) (JAI)
Jaipur Pink Panthers' raiding all-rounder Abhijeet Malik could make a return to the starting 7 after getting rested for Vikash Khandola in their 37-23 win over the Puneri Paltan. However, the experienced Vikash couldn't impact the match and didn't score a single point, and that should prompt the management to bring Abhijeet back to the starting lineup.
With 24 raid points and five tackle points in eight appearances, he has done a decent job for Jaipur despite receiving inconsistent game time throughout this tournament. If he starts, he's a potential Dream11 surprise pick to consider.
#2 Ashu Singh (DEF) (UP)
It's a surprise to see a defender with as much success as Ashu Singh has had this season, consistently get undervalued by Dream11 players. The UP Yoddhas' right cover has quietly gone about his business this season, scoring some very vital tackle points, with a total of 23 tackle points in 13 matches a very respectable number.
That includes a High 5 he scored against a very challenging Tamil Thalaivas' raiding outfit in their last match. Ashu was one of the Yoddhas' best performers in their 30-33 defeat in the reverse fixture where he scored one raid point and three tackle points.
Expect him to star against the same opponent and help your Dream11 teams rise up the rankings.
#1 Surjeet Singh (DEF) (JAI)
One of the most experienced and successful defenders in PKL history, Surjeet Singh, signed to replace Jaipur's captain Sunil Kumar in the right cover position, hasn't been as successful as the rest of his defensive partners are.
His tackle point tally of 23 points in eleven matches is still very solid for a cover defender, but with the likes of Ankush and Reza Mirbagheri outscoring him, combined with Surjeet's recent poor run of form, he has seen a dip in his Dream11 ownership.
However, a naturally attacking defender going up against the mostly right-raiding UP Yoddhas' unit could see plenty of action from a defensive front, and while he could well concede some cheap points, there's a good chance he ends up with a High 5.
With a high points ceiling Surjeet Singh is a top Dream11 surprise pick for this one.
