World Kabaddi League: Sony Six to telecast the event

The action starts on August 9

Mumbai, July 14 (IANS) Sports channel Sony Six will broadcast the inaugural edition of the World Kabaddi League (WKL), to start from August 9, in India.

WKL is the world's first professional kabaddi league that has been conceptualised in India, but will be played globally.

The league is loosely based on the Formula 1 style of travelling where all the participating teams compete against each other in a double round-robin format. The league will be played by 10 teams every weekend across 15 cities covering four continents.

"We are pleased to sign WKL as this game has a latent following in north India where it is seen as a community sport. We feel it is time to revive its legacy and make it an exciting venture for all those involved in the kabaddi ecosystem. It will be interesting to take this sport to the swanky stadiums in India and abroad," Sony Six business head Prasana Krishnan said.
