Over 4,600 pounds of Pork Chicharrones products are part of a nationwide recall issued by Capitology, LLC. The Charlotte, North Carolina,-based importer is recalling the products as they are ineligible to be sold in the United States.
Announced on October 23, 2023, the voluntary recall comes as a result of routine surveillance activities regularly conducted by the United States Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The federal agency had to get the concerned pork products recalled as they were imported to the U.S. from Honduras.
As Honduras is not a country that is eligible to export pork or pork products to the United States, the affected Pork Chicharrones aren't eligible to be sold in the country either. The federal agency has received no confirmed reports of sickness or other adverse effects following the consumption of the recalled pork products.
It is to be noted that only establishments from countries that have a Central Competent Authority (CCA) meeting similar or equal inspection systems to the FSIS are allowed to export eggs, poultry, and meat products to the United States. Although Honduras is on the list of countries eligible to export meat products to the United States, it is only certified for the export of raw beef products as of a June 8, 2023, notification.
