Utopia Foods Inc. is recalling all lots of Qilu Enterprise Enoki Mushrooms as they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes. If consumed, the affected mushrooms could cause people to experience severe to life-threatening sickness and infections.
The voluntary recall that was issued on October 23, 2023, comes following the results of a routine sampling test. The test that was conducted under the supervision of the State of West Virginia found that the concerned mushrooms were positive for Listeria Monocytogenes contamination. As of now, the recalled mushrooms have not caused any illness or infections.
Food contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes could lead to a listeriosis infection. The infection could severely affect people with low immunity, including frail people, children, pregnant women, and those who may have undergone major surgeries or treatments. A Listeriosis infection often causes people to experience symptoms like fever, nausea, stiffness in the body, severe headache, diarrhea, muscle pain, loss of balance, and abdominal pain.
Cases of Listeriosis in pregnant women are also known to result in stillbirths and miscarriages. As such, consumers who may have purchased them should strictly refrain from consuming them either cooked or raw. Those experiencing any of the aforementioned symptoms after consuming the recalled mushrooms should visit a doctor.
