The voluntary recall initiated on January 10 only affects the pack of the Outrageous Oat Cookies sold in over nine states, including - New York, Washington D.C, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Virginia. The establishment had to issue the recall after it came to light that certain wheat-containing ingredients may have been accidentally included in the recipe of the concerned cookies.
While the firm did not specify the type of the ingredient or how it found its way into the recipe, it has been confirmed that the affected cookies have not resulted in any adverse effects or casualties anywhere in the United States. It is to be noted that wheat allergies are primarily common in children and can affect over 1% of the total children population nationwide.
Suppose a person or child suffering from wheat allergy consumes wheat-containing food. In that case, they may be at risk of experiencing allergic symptoms like - nasal congestion, hives, irritation in mouth and throat, swelling, skin rashes, vomiting, asthma diarrhea, and abdominal cramps.
Individuals with severe sensitivity to the allergen are often at risk of anaphylaxis and may require an Epinephrine shot followed by professional medical support and/or hospitalization.
