Wegmans Salad Kits recall: Reason, affected UPC code, and all you need to know

Braga Fresh recently issued a nationwide recall for Wegmans Salad Kits over undeclared allergen concerns. The affected salad kits were recalled as they may reportedly contain eggs, which are an allergen and may cause people with an allergy to experience severe to life-threatening reactions.

Announced on October 18, 2023, the voluntary recall only applies to "Wegmans Organic Sweet Kale Chopped Salad Kits." As per the establishment, the condiments paired with the recalled product may contain egg as an ingredient. It is currently unclear how the allergen found its way into the condiment packs.

The establishment stated that the contamination came to light after an "internal inventory reconciliation process."

Although the affected products are not known to have caused an infection or other adverse effects, consumers are advised to refrain from consuming them either raw or cooked. One of the most common food allergens, eggs can trigger serious reactions in individuals who are allergic to the same.

These reactions often begin with symptoms like tingling of the tongue and mouth and can result in blisters and rashes on the skin, digestive issues, diarrhea, nausea, itchiness in the throat, and vomiting.

Serious cases of sensitivity against the allergen may also cause individuals to experience an anaphylaxis attack, requiring immediate medical attention. Those who experience any such symptoms after consuming the recalled product should consult a medical specialist at the earliest.

At least one lot of Wegmans Salad Kits is being recalled from across the United States over undeclared allergen concerns. The affected product, which may contain eggs in its condiments, may cause people with an allergy or sensitivity to experience life-threatening reactions.

Packed in labeled see-through plastic bags of 8 oz each, the affected products were sold under the name - "Wegmans Organic Sweet Kale Chopped Salad Kit." Available under Lot Code BFFS282B4, the recalled products were exclusively sold at Wegmans stores in and around the U.S.

Distributed with the UPC code 0 77890 55911 6, the affected Wegmans Salad Kits came with a 'Best if Used By Date' of October 27, 2023. Consumers may have been able to purchase the recalled product between October 14 and October 17 from Wegmans stores in the regions of New Jersey, North Carolina, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Maine, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
