We now come to the conclusion of our coverage of the ILT20 today. We'll be back with more of the same tomorrow - MI Emirates will take on the Gulf Giants in the 1st Qualifier at Dubai. Tune in right here on Sportskeeda to enjoy our coverage of the same, and a lot more! This is Rajarshi Das, signing off on behalf of Probuddha Bhattacharjee. Good night!
Sikandar Raza is the Player Of The Match! Here's what he has to say: Any time, any role that has been given to me, if I prepared for it in the nets, I am happy to take it up. We thought 160 would be a good total, once we got to 188 we were in with a lot of confidence. We thought they had to bat really well to get to it. All we needed to do was get wickets in the powerplay, and we were going to be in the game. (On Kuggeleijn and Stone) Those guys have been outstanding for us in all the games, they've come onboard and taken almost 10 wickets together. Kuggeleijn got four today, could have got five but for the run out. (On a small contingent of Zimbabwe fans at the venue) I know them, and now I'm going to see them, spend some time and have a bit of banter with them.
Sam Billings, Dubai Capitals captain: Playing yourself in on this wicket is a tricky task. Once you're past 10 to 15, you can get going. We thought 160 was a very good score. (On his fast bowling duo of Kuggeleijn and Stone) Those two complement each other really well. The ball has nipped a bit of these wickets, and they have set the tone. Pleased with the way we've gone about in the last three games, we are in with a very good shape.
Sunil Narine (Abu Dhabi Knight Riders Captain): Yeah I think they got 15-20 too many. Even if we could have restricted to 160 we could have put in a better fight. In this tournament, the powerplay is crucial. After losing three wickets in the powerplay, there was not much we could fight for. This was a decent tournament for us. There were some positive for us. It was a total team effort. It did not come out today just.
Match summary:
Dubai Capitals win by 85 runs
Sam Billings 46*(26) | Scott Kuggeleijn 4/17 (3.5) David Willey 36(27) | Sabir Ali Rao 2/35 (3)
As dominant a performance as they come indeed! The Dubai Capitals excelled in pretty much every aspect on the field today - they put up a tall total on a deck which has been aiding bowlers more often in the recent past, their fast bowling duo wreaked havoc in the powerplay, taking good care of the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders' top and middle-order, and then the spin trio of Haider Ali, Zahir Khan and Sikandar Raza made sure that there were no counter-attacks from the Knight Riders' lower order.
Scott Kuggeleijn and Olly Stone breathed fire as they threatened the Knight Riders top-order with pace and bounce on a surface usually known to aid slow bowlers more often. There was a bit of everything from the duo - swing, seam, extra bounce, skid off the deck as ADKR went on to lose 4 in the powerplay. While the openers departed in quick succession early, there was a brief bit of resistance from Joe Clarke, but he and Alishan Sharafu were both accounted for by Kuggeleijn, aided by some great catching.
Sam Hain, alongside David Willey, looked to put up a fight as the spinners were brought on, but the asking rate was north of 15 by then. Willey found the boundaries on occasions - he was just starting to enjoy his stay in the middle before Raza slowed one up and rattled his stumps. He and Zahir Khan picked up a couple each as Stone and Kuggeleijn returned to mop things up.
The Knight Riders had a better campaign this time, but the eliminator was as far as they could reach. The Dubai Capitals have had an epic turnaround in spite of the absence of several of their first team members - just goes on to show their bench strength!
No five-wicket haul for Scott Kuggeleijn, but he won't mind one bit - his side, the Dubai Capitals, have just made it to the second qualifier having put in a complete performance tonight!
16.5 Scott Kuggeleijn to Sabir Ali, good length delivery at the middle and leg. Sabir Ali looks to work that to the on-side but misses and is hit on the pads. The duo set off for a single. The fielder at point collects the ball and throws it at the non-striker's end to get it on the direct hit. The replays show that Ali was lazy in that run and that is a run-out. So that is the last WICKET!!!! And the Capitals will now wait the loser of the Qualifier 1 to face in the Qualifier 2.
16.4 Scott Kuggeleijn to Sabir Ali, good length and a slower one outside the off stump. Ali looks to play the late cut but does not make any connection.
16.3 Scott Kuggeleijn to Sabir Ali, yorker at the off stump. Ali prods the ball to the point fielder.
Sabir Ali Rao, RHB, comes to the crease
16.2 Scott Kuggeleijn to Sunil Narine, IN THE AIR AND TAKEN!!! Back of a length delivery at the off stump. Narine swings hard at that and gets it off the bottom of the bat in the air straight to Tom Banton at mid-off. Dubai Capitals are just one wicket away from the win now.
16.2 Scott Kuggeleijn to Sunil Narine, full and wide outside the off stump. Narine leaves it and the umpire signals that a wide.
16.1 Scott Kuggeleijn to Ravi Bopara, good length delivery at the off stump. Bopara looks to heave it over long-off but mistimes it. The ball falls short of long-on and a single taken.
Scott Kuggeleijn (3-0-15-3) is back into the attack
Bit of change in pace this time from Stone - he tried to set Narine up for the skiddy short one, but the ADKR skipper placed it in the gap.
