Righ so, it's a real shame that we couldn't get a game in here as the rain gods weren't too kind. For now, it's Soumarya Dutta, taking your leave on behalf of Pragadeesh. See you soon.
Update 15:05 IST, 20:05 Local time - It's official now and the game has been called off due to the heavy rain. It's a disappointing result for both the sides as well as the fans who had been waiting patiently for some cricket.
Update 2:40 pm IST - The umpires are having a chat with the groundsmen. Things aren't looking promising for any action as it's still raining. Looks like, the final decision will be made in 20 minutes
Update 14:35 pm IST, 19:35 Local time- Oh no! The rain has come around once again and it seems to be getting heavier. The chances of getting a game in tonight, look really bleak.
Matthew Short - That was a memorable night (On his century against Hobart Hurricanes). I struggled in the middle when I came across. Got an opportunity at the top of the order a couple of years back and never looked back after that. Jason showed a lot of faith in me and I am repaying it. (About Rashid Khan's withdrawl) I am shocked and it came out of the blue. He's a best leg-spinner and it's difficult to replace him. Boyce did a good job last year, it's tough to replace Rashid but Boycey, I am sure will do the job for us. (After the disappointing season) We did sit down, the staffs and the leadership group to see what we can do in the drafts. James Bazley and Overton are power-hitters in the team, and hopefully, they will do the job for us. (On their game against Thunder last year) It was a strange wicket and we thought we were a bit short but everything went our way. Proud moment to represent the country in front of my dad and fiance in South Africa
Update 2:00 pm IST - We are seeing activities on the field as the Super sooper is at work to soak up the water.
Update, 1:55 pm IST, 18:55pm Local time- The covers are still firmly in place but the news from the venue is that the rain is clearing a bit. We will have to wait and see how it pans out.
Update- The bat flip has been officially delayed due to the persistent rainfall. According to the information shared by the Brisbane Heat, the latest cut off time for 5 overs a side contest is 8:20 PM Local Time.
We are unlikely to see any action here in the next hour or so. We keep you posted on the weather but if you are hungry for more cricket, we are in for a thrilling finish in Dhaka. Catch the live coverage of the fabulous Day 4 action between Bangladesh and New Zealand here
Update 1:25 pm IST - It looks dark and still the drizzle is on. The pitch is covered and the outfield has taken a heavy beating. To make things worse, the weather doesn't look promising in the evening either, so we could be in for a big delay
The first update isn't what we hoped for. Yes, it's been raining in Adelaide and surely we are not starting this game at Scheduled time
Hello and welcome to Sportskeeda's LIVE coverage of the 2023 Big Bash League match between Adelaide Strikers and Brisbane Heat at the Adelaide Oval, Adelaide
The Heat sent a statement to the rest with a thumping victory over the Stars. Their new-looked team looks promising to achieve big things in the current edition but it's interesting to see how they fare away from home. Beating the Strikers in Adelaide hasn't been easy but since this is the new season, you never know what to expect from them.
They still have the firepower at the top but they lack the international experience, and with Rashid Khan ruled out of the tournament due to back injury and with the red-hot Travis Head unlikely to play in 3/4th of the season, it remains to be seen how they cope in the initial stage of the league
In batting, the hopes are pinned on Matthew Short and Chris Lynn at the top. Both batters were stand-out players for the team last season, with the former being the second highest run-getter with 458 runs
Brisbane Heat will be missing the services of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne, so the in-form Colin Munro will be captaining the side, also Max Bryant could be pushed up the order.
On Paper, the Heat looks a bit strong but don't underestimate the power of Henry Thornton and Wes Agar as the duo dismantled the Thunder last year. It was one of the very few moments to look back and rejoice for the Strikers. There is no doubt that this is going to be a battle between Heat's batters & Strikers' bowlers and we can't wait for it to begin
