Matthew Short is the Player of the Match, here's what he has to say: Massive win. We needed it. I think we need the next three in a row as well. The fans have been behind us. Good to get the win. Nothing to lose has been the messaging for the last couple of days. We were under the pump in the last few games, nice to go over the line. They are quality outfit wherever they play. We knew it was going to be a tough challenge. We know now that if we pull together we can be a tough team to beat. I don't feel any extra pressure. I am feeling really good. There's not too much to learn, he (Lynn) has taught me a lot in the last couple of months. He keeps me calm in the middle.

It has been a proper annihilation by Adelaide Strikers. They hand two-time defending champions Perth Scorchers their first defeat of the season. Matthew Short has led the way with an exceptional batting effort of an unbeaten 76 from 51 balls. He seems to be relishing the captaincy duties and thriving under that extra bit of leadership.
His 96 run partnership with Chris Lynn deflated whatever conviction Perth Scorchers had of making a match out of this one. "We love batting together, he keeps me calm." - says Matt Short as he picks up the Man of The Match award by Kath Loughnan.
The fact that they have managed to win this by a margin of 23 balls remaining speaks volumes about the decimation that was on show tonight. Henry Thornton spoke in the pre-match show that they had nothing to lose and the Strikers played in exactly that fashion.
One of those rare days for Perth Scorchers where nothing seemed to go their way. 154 was always going to be a tough ask to defend, specially given the red hot form in which the Strikers top order find themselves in and all 3 of them put on a show tonight.
It would be an arduous job for the ones making the highlights reel as the ball flew to all parts of the ground and the Scorchers bowlers were bereft of ideas on how to limit the rampaging Strikers batting line-up that hit fifth gear from the very first over tonight.
16.1 Cooper Connolly to Matthew Short, THAT'LL DO! Low full toss on the leg-stump, Matt comes forward and clips it to deep fine leg to complete a stunning win for the Strikers! What an innings this was from him and what a brilliant partnership with Lynn. The Strikers defeat the double defending champions by nine wickets!

Matt Short has continued in his own merry way. An amazing aspect is how confidently he has taken up the aerial route towards the longer side of the ground and consistently made it. Things like this also burst the morale of the bowling side.
