3 time champions Australia bow out with a third-place finish while Afghanistan finishes fourth. Both teams had contrasting world cups and it is the better team who took the bragging rights tonight. Cooper Connolly, Australia captain: Feels good to get over the line. Was a little nervous in the end moments of the game but was happy with the performance. Radhakrishnan can bat well and can also bowl well and will contribute to the team's cause. A lot of positives for us in this tournament. We finished third, which is great, but we have also met each other and have known each other well only meeting once before the tournament

Suliman Safi, Afghanistan captain: It was a good and tight game. We win some, we lose some but the boys showed good effort. Ahmadzai and Ishaq batted well but couldn't cap off the way we wanted it to. It was a good world cup and will be a learning curve for us in the future

Nivethan Radhakrishnan, Player of the Match: Yeah it was a great game of cricket for the viewers. We could have chased it down earlier. I felt pretty low yesterday after the defeat against India but today I woke up with good energy and our entire team looked motivated. We have represented Australia in the best possible way. I am still upset that I couldn't stay till the end but Afghanistan did a terrific job. Cricket Gods smiled on us a bit at the end.

Excellent batting effort from Australia which was matched by an equally good bowling effort from Afghanistan as the boys from down under held their nerves and walked home with the win. Congratulations to Afghanistan and commiserations to Afghanistan who fought very hard but couldn't pick those last two wickets. They can keep their head held high and will be happy with the effort they put in this match defending a good total

Australia started off this chase very well. Their openers put together an opening stand of 50 runs before the impressive Teague Wyllie was dismissed. Kellaway and Radhakrishnan scored half-centuries but had very little support from the other end as the wickets kept falling one after another end. Shaw and Miller chipped in with valuable cameos and towards the end, Sinfield and Garner took the side home displaying their nerves of steel and scoring the final runs.

Spare a thought for Afghanistan, who bowled so brilliantly. They bowled 25 extras that could have been avoided, but kudos to them for showing some fight after having almost let the age slip out of their heads. Nangyalai Khan picked up 3 wickets and was aided by Noor Ahmad and Shahidullah Hasani who picked up 2 wickets each. The fielding was average as they managed a runout but also allowed the batters to pick up runs from overthrows. Let's now hear what the man of the match and the captains have to say about the game
