Toss update: Central Districts have won the toss and opted to field.
Hello and welcome to Sportskeeda’s live coverage of the 17th match of the Super Smash between Auckland and Central Districts from the John Davies Oval, Queenstown! I, Mohul Bhowmick, will be your friend and guide for the day.
While the Central Districts are ranked in the second position of the league table at the time of writing with 14 points to their name, Auckland are perched right at the bottom of the same standings with a mere six points inside their kitty. The latter will be trying their best to try and ensure that they get a positive result today and do not have to bow down to the Central Districts and accept their supremacy.
Auckland will have the likes of Ben Horne, Mark Chapman and Max O’Dowd to rely upon and it will be the responsibility of these players to ensure that they take the game till the very end. For the Central Districts, on the other hand, a lot will rest on the shoulders of former New Zealand international Ross Taylor as well as Tom Bruce and Josh Clarkson. Both the sides on offer have balanced rosters, and we can expect a real clash between them.
Central Districts have a positive net run rate of +0.230 whereas Auckland’s is in the negative range of -0.588. While the former will be hoping to consolidate their net run rate today, the latter will be trying their best to improve upon theirs. This can only be possible if they post a big total and skittle their opponents out for a lowly total. Or else, they will hope to repeat the latter first and chase the target down with plenty of overs to spare.
This promises to be a very exciting game, so stay tuned till the very end!
