Rohit Sharma (captain, Team India): As the game goes on, the expressions change. There is a lot of experience in the dressing room to handle the composure and KL and Gill showed exactly that. (About the conditions) We knew there wouldn't be much grass on the pitch and it would be a bit slower. That is how it exactly played. With the bat as well, we were a bit under pressure but when you play against a quality side, you expect this. (On Mohammed Shami) Very happy for him, we know the quality that he has, the kind of matchwinner he is for us. Every time we throw the ball at him, he delivers for us. (About Gill's sixes) I thought you were going to mention the dropped catch. Gill has the class, good to see he batted till the end.(On Axar Patel missing a hattrick) Might take him for dinner tomorrow, it was an easy catch should have taken it. These things happen, and the way these guys bowled as well was great. They were 39/5 before Towhid and Jaker put on a partnership. Credit to them. Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain, Bangladesh): I think the way we batted in the first 10 overs cost us the game. It is tough for the lower order batters to put on a score. Jaker and Towhid batted very well and we had a few dropped catches and chances. Had we taken them it would have been a bit different. The ball on this surface turned a bit and Jaker and Towhid batted well, hopefully, they carry on. Had the pacers picked up two or three wickets early on, it could have been our game. We have played in Rawalpindi against Pakistan and the boys will adapt

Shubman Gill is the Player of the Match, here is what he had to say: Yeah definitely one of my most satisfying hundreds and more so as it is my first century in ICC events. When me and Rohit bhai went out we knew cutting was difficult so I decided to use my feet even to the fast bowlers. When the spinners came in me and Virat Kohli decided to play more on the backfoot. At one point there was some pressure. The message was sent up that I had to bat till the end. Both sizes were actually very satisfying.

India open their account in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy. They had a great day with the ball in hand, managing to bundle out Bangladesh cheaply and then managing to end up on the right side of a tense, nervy chase. Bangladesh did a fine job of putting on a total, but were lacklustre with the ball in hand and in the field, with a dropped catch costing them in particular.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill were off and running after an initial period of lull. The duo put together 65 runs for the first wicket, with Rohit Sharma being the aggressor and Gill treating the viewer's eyes with some fine shots. Taskin Ahmed, who had seen Rohit Sharma survive a chance, managed to get the better of him and prized his wicket.
Then followed a period where the flow of runs had dried up. Virat Kohli had a tough time rotating strike and did get a boundary, but eventually perished. Shreyas Iyer also got a couple of boundaries under his belt but failed to make use of the start he got and threw his wicket away in a bid to pump the flow of runs. Akin to Axar Patel, who again was promoted to number five today but failed to make the most of this chance, being caught in the deep.
It could have been all doom for India in the middle overs as KL Rahul went for a big hit and had his heart in his mouth looking at where the ball had gone but then was relieved with Jaker Ali giving the wicketkeeper batter a reprieve. The duo of Gill and KL Rahul then didn't look back and kept batting, putting together 87 runs in 98 balls. Gill got to his eighth 100 and KL Rahul put a seal of approval on it, ending it with a maximum.
Bangladesh put on a great fight but ended up well short in the first innings with a lower total. Rishad Hossain built pressure with his spell, being as miserly as he could and picking up two wickets. His partner in crime, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, also was very stingy with how he conceded runs but was unsuccessful in getting a scalp to his name. Pacers Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed did a fine job in the middle but couldn't have a few breakthroughs stick to hand. Bangladesh might take a call on Tanzid Hasan Tamim, who was a bit expensive and could make way for Nahid Rana in the next game.
