Commentary

So that is all that we have for you from the Gabba for today, it was a match that saw it all and it took an extra ball after the last ball to decide the outcome. Now, it is over to the Perth Stadium with two important games lined up. First up, it is Pakistan in a must-win encounter against the Netherlands. And the second one sees India in action against South Africa! Do not forget to keep track of those games here on Sportskeeda! For now, this is the pair of Pragadeesh and Bidipto, saying good bye!

If you asked for a nail-biter of a game, this was it! The perfect game for a thriller! Bangladesh had the match in their grip for a majority of the second innings, and then, the partnership from Sean Williams and Ryal Burl came like a whirlwind and threatened to snatch victory away from them. In the end, the last over was like a pendulum swinging from one way to another, which saw almost everything in it, not to forget the no-ball that brought the players back out on to the field after a supposed finish! Ultimately, it was Bangladesh that came out victorious!

Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman were excellent, both in terms of strike rate and economy, but the other bowlers could not quite do a good follow-up job, and Zimbabwe cashed in on that big time! After losing early and regular wickets, including that of Sikandar Raza, Sean Williams stepped up to the plate and played some wonderful shots to take his team closer to victory. The fielding from Bangladesh too, helped their opponents.

Shakib changed the bowling meticulously, but the danger would always be in the overs of the spinners and Hasan Mahmud, right towards the end. Zimbabwe did indeed target those overs, and got plenty out of them.

Then it came down to the last over and Musaddek was given the responsibility to close it out. But interestingly enough, gave away a four and a six to make the match more nervy! However, he did manage to take the wickets of Brad Evans and Richard Ngarava in the process. But the last ball drama, was one of epic proportions!

Nurul Hasan Sohan presumably stumped Muzarabani and that was that, with Zimbabwe unable to score five runs off the last ball. But after the hand shakes and the formalities, with Bangladesh fans celebrating, came the news that Nurul had collected the ball in front of the stumps to take the bails off eventually and that it was a no-ball! Everything changed in seconds and Zimbabwe suddenly required 4 runs off 1 ball, off a free-hit. But thankfully for Bangladesh, Musaddek held his nerve and bowled a flatter and faster ball which Muzarabani could not connect!

Now, Bangladesh have 4 points on the board in Group 2 with two games in hand. Zimbabwe stay on 3 points after three matches.

Shakib Al Hasan, Bangladesh captain: What a thriller of a game it was! Great game of cricket from both sides, but we held on to our nerves and got the job done. I thought we bowled really well in the power play, Taskin and Mustafizur were tremendous and then, our spinners came into play and a terrific over from Musaddek won us the match. We got runs on the board today, and that always comes in handy in big games. Shanto played well even after his injury and even though we were a few runs short of where we wanted to be, we got enough to defend.

Craig Ervine, Zimbabwe captain: It was a really close game, with some drama right at the end, but we played a few bad shots and lost quite a few wickets and left it too much to do for the players in the lower middle order. But we fought really hard and took to game deep, Sean and Ryan played extremely well and Richard, with the six, gave us more hope. We have to improve on our fielding, we were just not up to the mark in that department today.

Taskin Ahmed (Man of the Match): It was a really good match and we enjoyed it. It was the first time I saw such things happen. I am just focusing on the process and looking to improve. We usually play at a slow wicket but here we get some movement. There is a good bunch of fan group here but we look to improve. Allan Donald is helping us a lot and the other guys are backing each other really well

Finally, finally, the win is Bangladesh's! Finally! Zimbabwe have been brilliant though, they were out of the contest at one stage, with regular fall of wickets, but the comeback from them with the partnership of Sean Williams and Ryan Burl was precious. Then came the last over that had everything in it, wickets, a six, a no-ball with a story in itself, a rare error by the keeper to bring about that no-ball, and finally, a Bangladesh win!
