Alrighty! A real topsy-turvy contest but the Women in Blue prevail at the end of it. Plenty of positives for Bangladesh, particular on the bowling and fielding front but they simply have to turn in a better display with the bat, notwithstanding how the pitch behaved. As for India, they'd want to turn up a lot better themselves and acknowledge the fact that they really got away by the skin of their teeth today.

Harmanpreet Kaur (Indian captain): It wasn't the best of performances with the bat but its always important how you bounce back. We showed our character. We were keen to win and when you do that, it shows in the results. The bowlers were under pressure and they did well with the fielders also supporting them. We have a couple of young bowlers in this series who will take responsibility for us. It's important for us to put them into situations. We don't want to be hiding them and they did a great job for us today.

Deepti Sharma is the Player of the Match. Here's what she has to say: I really enjoyed this track. It helped the spinners and I really enjoyed over there. My plan was very simple. We held our nerves and bowled according to the situation. We just wanted to bowl more dot balls. (On the conversation with the youngsters) It was just to keep calm and stick to the process. Everyone did well as a team. Whenever I get an opportunity while batting as well I make sure to play the full 20 overs.

Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh captain): It's disappointing because it was a very good job by the bowlers but the batters didn't do enough. Including me, I should have been there till the end. (Batting) I think we didn't get the start we wanted but it happens. We should move on and focus on the next game. (Sobhana) She's still getting some treatment. I hope she's available for the next match.

You can rub your eyes all you want upon having a look at the scorecard but it's true. India have pulled off a heist by defending a paltry total of 95 with their spinners weaving a web around the Bangladeshi batters. A solitary over of pace was what we saw in the second innings with Pooja Vastrakar not summoned after an expensive opening over. The first over was all that went Bangladesh's way with the bat though, for all their brilliance with the ball and on the park.

Minnu Mani was magnificent with her control while Deepti Sharma did what she does so often in restricting the scoring shots. The duo stifled the top-order in the powerplay with a wicket apiece as both openers departed early. Murshida Khatun, who was substituted into the game with Sobhana Mostary having gone for a scan due to the bad fall she had while taking a screamer of a catch, couldn't get going whatsoever and with the spinners keeping the batters on a leash, it all came down to skipper Nigar Sultana.

It wasn't easy for her as very few loose deliveries came her way. The asking rate crept up steadily although it never escalated beyond a run-a-ball for large swathes. She hung in there even as a few half-chances went in her favor as the Indians put down a couple of crucial catches in the death overs and a run out chance also went abegging. Before that though, a partnership developed between her and Shorna Akter, even as the latter never got any kind of impetus into her innings.

It became distinctly clear that this was Nigar versus India. Even the part-timers held their nerve and once Deepti had Nigar stumped, Shafali Verma bowled a final over for the ages to ensure that Bangladesh were bowled out as they folded in rather tame fashion, conceding the series to India after a low-scoring thriller. A lopsided contest in many ways but India have come out on the right side of it!

Four wickets in the final over! Take a bow, Shafali Verma! Steely nerves of the highest order and she has held her own quite brilliantly to pull off a stunning jailbreak for India, who win the series with a game to spare. My word!
