Let's hear it from the player of the match, Shamima Sultana: Our bowlers bowled really well to them. I am proud of my innings, not really sad for missing out on the half-century. That is who I am; I always play as the team management asks me to. The pitch was a little slow in the morning, but it has become better now. Will hope to carry this momentum forward.

The defending champions of the Women's Asia Cup, Bangladesh, began their campaign with a clinical and dominating performance against minnows Thailand here in Sylhet. They were the better side overall, and their showing was very well-regarded by their supporters watching from across the globe.

We saw a rather one-sided performance by Bangladesh here. Having bundled Thailand out for 82, they took very little time to chase that total down. Thanks are due to wicketkeeper batter Shamima Sutana, who capped a fine day behind the stumps with 49 in front of it. It is unfortunate that she could not get to her half century, but this inning will give her a lot of confidence.

For Thailand, the only positive might seem to be Phannita Maya's blistering knock of 26. They need to pull their socks up and make sure that they come back stronger in the next games that they play in this competition. They were given a proper lesson in Twenty20 cricket by Bangladesh here in Sylhet.
