Lauren Winfield-Hill (Barmy Army skipper): I think it is a proper team performance. We got a few more than we did yesterday. The way Laura bowled, Tara has been doing a great job here. We were under the pump just a bit with Dottin and Fatima going for runs. You have to be decisive on this surface with which strokes you want to execute.

Suzie Bates (Falcons skipper): Yeah we were, the game was about two Halves. Barmy Army got off to a flyer and then we made a comeback with the ball and it was similar with our innings. We were well ahead in the game. The slow bowlers came and put us under a lot of pressure. It wasn’t an easy wicket. So many positives to take from this game. Look it’s nice to win but its also important to ensure we keep preparing well.

The Barmy Army has pulled off an incredible victory by 9 runs especially after being behind the game for the majority of the run chase. Danny Wyatt and Chamari Athapaththu got them off to a spectacular start and shared an opening stand of 77 runs which lai the platform for the middle-order batters. They had it covered and the required rate went down run a ball. However the bowling attack kept chipping away with the wickets in the middle overs, eventually winning in the final over.

Wyatt and Athapatththu was fearless in their approach and looked like finishing off the game in a canter. Wyatt raced off to 38 off just 21 deliveries which included 4 sixes before perishing at the hands of Laura Cardoso. Athapaththu was also dismissed in a short span of time and they could never really recover from that.

The Brazilian international Cardoso had a ball in the park, bagging three crucial wickets to break the backbone of the Falcons. They kept chipping away with the wickets which was the order of the day and the lower-order batters could never manage to get going. The lack of power was evident as they struggled to even clear the 30-yard circle. Rumana Ahmed and Kavisha Egadoge was the pick of the bowlers for Barmy Army with three wickets each.

Jahanara Alam smashed a four and a six in the penultimate over but lack of game awareness meant that the match ended by the first delivery of the final over. She gave away the strike to new batter and No 11 Gunjan Shukla and that was the final nail in the coffin for them. Athapaththu was the top scorer, scoring 44 off just 33 deliveries.
