That wraps our coverage of the league stage of ESCN Portugal 2024. Join us tomorrow for the commencement of the Super Five stage. Till then, Darpan Tikiya waves you goodbye.
Purto Wanderers beat Coimbra Knights by 9 wickets.
Coimbra Knights 97/7 (10 overs) Aazing 39 (16) | Neil Charles 4-9
Twice in two matches now, the Coimbra Knights have been steamrolled. With no chances of qualifying for the next round, the Knights were playing for pride. Things started off reasonably well. Amninder Singh was in good nick and everytime he connected, the ball would scamper away to the fence.
At 62/0 in 4 overs, it seemed as if they were cruising along nicely. But them came Neil Charles into the attack and broke the backbone of their batting line up. As pointed out earlier, they played all around him.
The innings lost steam and the Knights could only manage 97 runs in their 10 overs.
The Wanderers chased this down like a cop car. Their pick up was swift and the kept everyone on their toes with their loud hitting. Junaid Bashir, in particular, hit the ball as clean as a whistle. Chambers started off slowly but joined the party later.
Tejpreet Singh was the only unfortunate one to have missed out on a score this time. But his team win it clinically and with a bonus point. Although, the bonus point isn't enough to paddle them into the next phase.
5.2 Qadeer Ahmed to Anthony Chambers, FOUR!! THOSE ARE THE WINNING RUNS! Half tracker from the bowler, angling in. It finishes on the pads and Chambers just helps it along the way and picks up a boundary.
5.1 Qadeer Ahmed to Anthony Chambers, ful ball angling in. BOOM!! He gets on the frontfoot and hits an aerial on-drive. The ball goes sailing over the long on fence for a six.
