Match Summary: Farmers CC beat Dreux by 12 runs.
Patrick Gouge 58* (20) | Jack De Gruchy 3/8 (1) Muhammad Rafah 34 (10) | Abdurrahman Ahmadzai 1/7 (1)
It was a mountain too tall to scale in the end for Dreux, even as they gave it everything and didn't go down without a fight. That they've come within 12 runs of eclipsing 160 is testament to their fighting spirit but they were always bound to have their backs to the wall while chasing a score as big as that.
The asking rate was 16.10 at the start of the innings but with just 30 runs coming in the powerplay, it escalated rapidly enough to leave Dreux well behind the eight-ball. Hamza Niaz looked threatening initially, but Oliver Hald saw the back of him soon enough. It was Muhammad Rafah though who flipped the game on its head, pulverizing Jack Kemp for a barrage of sixes as he went for 31 off a single over.
The game was right back in the balance but Nicolaj Damgaard dealt the killer blow by sending Rafah back on his way. Tabish Bhatti then took over but once Jack De Gruchy picked up three in a single over, the game looked done and dusted. He was surprisingly not given the last over and even though Dreux needed 33 off it, a waist-high no ball that soared the distance kept them in the hunt mathematically. Eventually though, Bhatti's valiant heroics went in vain as Farmers CC wrapped things up by 12 runs.
Farmers CC are now off the mark in the Championship Week of the European Cricket League 2023. They will look to sustain this momentum and convert it into a winning habit. As for Dreux, they simply need their bowlers to step up a lot better in the games to come as they suffer their first defeat of the Championship Week.
Just became too tall an ask in the end for Dreux. We wonder how Jack De Gruchy wasn't given that last over having picked up three wickets in his first. Either way, Farmers CC prevail by 12 runs!

9.6 Rhys Palmer to Tabish Bhatti, OUT! Farmers win by 12 runs. It was full and well outside off, Bhatti looks to go over the top and does not quite middle it. Damgaard comes charging in from long off and completes the catch. Tabish Bhatti c Nicolaj Damgaard b Rhys Palmer 31 (13b, 1x4, 4x6)
9.5 Rhys Palmer to Tabish Bhatti, full and outside off, Bhatti swings hard but only manages to get it to mid on off the toe end, turns down a single
9.4 Rhys Palmer to Tabish Bhatti, SIX! Fires it full and outside off, Bhatti stays deep in his crease and muscles it over long on for another maximum! 13 needed off 2.
Now then - it's mathematically possible now! Just bowl legal deliveries Rhys! Your team is nearly there. Free hit loading!
9.4 Rhys Palmer to Tabish Bhatti, SIX AND NOBALL! Dreux are still in the game! A beamer on the body, Bhatti puts it away over square leg with ease!
9.3 Rhys Palmer to Abdurrahman Ahmadzai, full and wide, punched to wide long off for a single
9.2 Rhys Palmer to Abdurrahman Ahmadzai, overpitched and on the off, Ahmadzai gives himself some room and launches it straight over the bowler's head for a maximum!
9.1 Rhys Palmer to Abdurrahman Ahmadzai, tosses it up on off, Ahmadzai swings hard on the leg side but only manages an inside edge onto the pads
Rhys Palmer [1.0-0-9-0] to bowl the final over of the game.
Last rites remaining now. Still gettable if every delivery travels of course, but again, it's just about one or two good deliveries and Farmers CC have this in the bag.
