Right then! England deservedly hold the defending champions tag in this format and they continue to be unstoppable, especially, on their home turf. New Zealand felt the heat throughout the contest and they know that they have to turn up differently in all departments on Friday to challenge their power-packed opponents. We can't wait to see how everything unfolds at Manchester, but now, it's time to end the coverage here. Until next time, this is Pragadeesh and Arya saying goodbye and goodnight
Jos Butter (England Captain) - Delighted. It was a good performance. After Finn Allen hit those three sixes, it was good to come back and get those wickets inside the powerplay. (On Brydon Carse) He bowled with good skill and Luke too responded well after that first over. (On Dawid Malan) Exactly, he is a class player and he's been consistent for us in all formats. (On Liam Livingstone) I think he bowled brilliantly and he's a Goldust in this format. Moeen and Rash bowled really well too
Tim Southee (New Zealand captain): Not our best efforts but we have two days to turn this around. They kept taking wickets at regular intervals which didn't let us press on the accelerator. We didn't really read the wicket as well as we would have liked. Its doing it our way and keeping the style intact. Glenn Phillips has been in great form and he does well in tricky situations and manages to give us a competitive score. We have a couple of days to recover.
Brydon Carse [ Man of the Match] -I just kept bowling to my strengths and managed to pick up that crucial wicket (Finn Allen's) at that time. Sometimes it's two-paced in the middle and in the powerplay a few deliveries held on the surface. I played here for 10 years. I had a lot of friends who spoke to me ahead of this contest and it was a special feeling to play in front of them
England won by 7 wickets Dawid Malan 54(42) | Glenn Philipps 41(38) Luke Wood 3-37(4) | Ish Sodhi 1-23
There is only one winner in this contest right from the word go. England were so clinical with the ball firstly as they restricted the opposition to a par total on this track and in reply, New Zealand managed to get rid of Bairstow and put the hosts under the pump in the first three overs but Jacks took on Ferguson to suck those little momentum that the visitors gathered early on
After that over, England went unstoppable as they kept scoring boundaries in every over to push the run rate over 10 at the end of the powerplay. Sodhi and Santner showed promising signs at the start and the former managed to pick up Jacks' wicket with a half-tracker, however, that didn't slow things down for the hosts. Malan was striking the ball clean and Brook entertained the Riverside crowd with some monstrous hits.
Southee rotated his bowlers but it didn't reap any rewards as Malan reached his half-century. Ferguson brought Malan's fabulous knock to an end but Livingstone joined hands with Brook to complete the formalities with 36 balls to spare
A monstrous hit from Livingstone and England take a 1-0 lead in the series. Hugs and handshakes all around. New Zealand were outplayed and they have a lot to do to challenge this well-oiled England outfit before the second T20I on Friday

13.6 Adam Milne to Liam Livingstone, SIX! Livingstone ends the match in style. Was a short of a length delivery a shade outside off, Livingstone stays deep in his crease and in his brutal manner powers this over the midwicket fence for a maximum. What a clinical performance from the hosts. They win by 7 wickets and takes a 1-0 lead in the 4-match series.
13.5 Adam Milne to Harry Brook, square driven off a good-length a shade outside off, glided away past the point region and takes a single.
13.4 Adam Milne to Harry Brook, FOUR! It just bounces in front of the long-off fence. Was a full-length delivery just a tad outside off, drilled down the ground, takes the aerial route and it just bounces agonisingly close of the boundary cushions.
13.3 Adam Milne to Harry Brook, FOUR! That was a back of a length delivery a shade outside off, Brook swipes it across the line, doesn't get the timing he was after. More of a swipe from the cue end of the bat, down towards the vacant midwicket region and off to the fence.
13.2 Adam Milne to Harry Brook, on a good-length around the middle stump, worked away straight to the midwicket fielder.
13.1 Adam Milne to Harry Brook, did that touch the stumps? Yes it did but the bails remained in the groove. Back of a lengt delivery around off, oh no that just evades the stumps. He tried to tap it away past the keeper and take a single.
Turning out to be a forgettable day for Ferguson with the ball. England just two hits away to take a 1-0 lead in the series

12.6 Lockie Ferguson to Harry Brook, slower back of a length delivery angling down leg, Brook gloves it away towards the fine leg region, he couldn't quite time that but will keep strike for the next over.
12.5 Lockie Ferguson to Harry Brook, that was a good-length delivery angling into Brook, he works it away towards the deep backward square leg region, manages to make his crease back in time. Good dive to get back in.
12.4 Lockie Ferguson to Liam Livingstone, fuller-length delivery just a tad outside off, eased away towards the mid-off fieder and takes a single.
12.3 Lockie Ferguson to Harry Brook, a loopy slower full toss which has been swiped away towards the deep backward square leg region, Brook through the shot way too early and has to be content with a single.
12.3 Lockie Ferguson to Harry Brook, Fabian Allen again does well but Brook has enough time to return for a brace. On a length drifting down leg and helped away towards the fine leg region, returns for a brace. Wait, this has been called a no ball again. Front foot this time.
