Thanks a lot for joining us- Mohul Bhowmick and Karthik Raj- for this game. We hope you enjoyed it as we brought the live coverage right from Pallekele. Jaffna Kings, the defending champions of the LPL, bounced back strongly with a lopsided win over Galle Titans. Until next time, ciao!
Thisara Perera (Jaffna Kings' captain): My bowlers did a great job today. Yesterday, when we practiced, there was no dew, but today there was a lot of dew. Gurbaz and Hridoy did extremely well with the bat, as did Asalanka. They are all classical batters. We rested a couple of batters today but we have a good bench. Dunith (Wellalage) was brilliant today. In some games, I can't bowl him due to the left hand-right hand combination but he was fantastic today.
Dasun Shanaka (Galle Titans' captain): Tough night for us. We have to think twice about batting first now. They bowled really well, so full credit to them. We should have stuck to our strengths. We could have scored at least 150. Sometimes, these things happen with experienced teams too. Just a bad day.
Dunith Wellalage (Player of the Match): I have been practicing very well. My coaches and team-mates have always supported me. The pitch is a bit slow, I tried to use the pace and crease. I always trust my team, specially the skipper
Jaffna Kings sealed the deal with ease owing to the stupendous batting performance put up by their batters Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Towhid Hridoy. Although Gurbaz's fellow opener Charith Asalanka fell soon into the chase, the former did not give up at all. He managed to keep going and found an able partner in number three Hridoy.
The Bangladeshi lent a lot of support to Gurbaz, and allowed the latter to free his arms. The batters took a special liking to offie Akil Dananjaya, and creamed him for 45 runs in 2.4 overs. Gurbaz, however, succumbed to Shakib Al Hasan later on in the chase and this brought David Miller to the crease.
However, the burly South African did not have to do much, as everything was taken care of by Hridoy. All Miller did was applaud Hridoy from the other end and appreciate him when he did well. This game will give a lot of confidence to Jaffna Kings, who are the defending champions of this tournament.
The bowlers of Jaffna set this game up for them by restricting Galle to a lowly total. This allowed their batters to play their game with a free mind and not take too much of pressure. Jaffna, whose net run rate had taken a beating after their previous game against Dambulla Aura, will feel that this win might help their cause tremendously.
Hridoy seals the deal with another massive hit!
12.4 Akila Dananjaya to Towhid Hridoy, GAME, SET AND MATCH! Full leg-break, Hridoy gets down on his knee and slog-sweeps it over deep mid-wicket for a maximum. With that, Jaffna Kings register a eight-wicket victory!
That was massive!
12.3 Akila Dananjaya to Towhid Hridoy, SMACKED! Leg-break dragged down, Hridoy moves across and smacks it over deep square-leg for a maximum
He has all the power in the world but used the reverse sweep to send this ball for four!
12.2 Akila Dananjaya to David Miller, turning away from a length, Miller cuts it to deep point for a single
12.1 Akila Dananjaya to David Miller, FOUR! Full outside-off, Miller reverse-sweeps it over backward square-leg for a boundary
Akila Dananjaya [2-0-28-0] is back into the attack.
Shakib sneaked in a valuable over here. Miller will look to add a few quick runs with Hridoy here. The latter might not be able to get to his fifty, with just fifteen runs needed.
