Delhi Capitals make a huge leap in the points table tonight. They were placed 9th before the game began and are now at number 6. It is twice in a row against the Gujarat Titans, that their bowling has done wonders. Last season too, the bowlers put their hands up and helped DC clinch an unlikely victory against the Titans. They have done so again here. In a way, IPL 2024 needed this kind of a match. The last two evenings were like nightmares for the bowlers which threatened to render their existence endangered in this format. But tonight, the members of the bowlers union will go to bed smiling. So would us both - Darpan Tikiya and Pradeep - who have enjoyed every second at our jobs tonight bringing all the action. Alas, it is now time to wave you goodbye. Keep following Sportskeeda for more sporting action.
Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals Captain and the Player of the Match): I think there are lot of things to be pleased about. We talked about having a champion mindset and having a positive thought process with each player. It came off tonight. It is still early in the tournament but it is our best bowling performance of the season. With each and every match I am feeling better and loving to be in the field. We had lost some net run rate earlier so the idea was to chase it down as soon as possible. I think we just love being in Ahmedabad as a team. We just want to enjoy one win at a time and move forward learning from it.
The post match presentation is coming up next.
Subholaxmi Ganguly: "I was indeed expecting a high intensity match.. But turned out to be completely different.. What a pitch !!" - Don't think the pitch had any gremlins in it, Subholaxmi. It was some poor shot selection and decent bowling in that first innings.
Iqbal: "Not good performance by DC, I would like to appreciate GT for their taking 4 wickets" - Well, trying to gun a target down in 8.4 overs comes with certain risks. But Delhi batters were all prepared to take those. I don't think they were too worried about the 4 wickets going down.
Hii: "Jake has been lucky draw for DC, he has changed the mindset of DC, reminds me of Warner at the initial seasons at SRH before becoming captain. He is a lucky player and a true smasher #BabyGayle" - Well, he certainly has been a great addition. But lets reserve the praises for the bowlers tonight!
Jake Fraser-McGurk (Delhi Capitals): I just try and get off to nice start, hopefully getting the net run-rate in our favour. When you are riding this way, you need to ride it this way, make the most of it. I think we got the better of the conditions, dew came in and it was keeping low, didn't face much but it was a nice wicket personally. It's pretty surreal every time you hear him. I think we've got the confidence, we know how we go about business, if we can keep up and have jumped to fifth spot and just keeping winning, who knows. Something we talked about in the break, pretty happy to get it done quickly.
Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans captain): I think batting was ordinary, even if we had a good game, we need to move on and have the same mindset, come back and try again. The wicket was alright, if we see our dismissals, even mine, it was not a wicket taking wickets and Sai's run-out. When the opposition is chasing 89, you know you are always behind the eight ball, unless someone takes a double hat-trick. This is half into the season, won three games, nothing changes for us and we back ourselves to win 6 or 7.
Delhi Capitals win by 6 wickets.
Gujarat Titans 89 all out (17.3 overs) Delhi Capitals 92/4 (8.5 overs)
IT IS A THUMPING VICTORY FOR THE DELHI CAPITALS!! A win that will help them jump a few places in the points table as it not only fetches them two vital points, but also provides them the much needed net run rate boost.
What's even special is the fact that this victory was set up by their bowlers. Almost antithetical to the theme of the season. Bowlers haven't found it easy in IPL 2024 and the Delhi unit themselves have been at the receiving end in a few games.
But today, they can smile. Most of them hit their straps and bowled well as a unit to make sure that GT were never let off the hook. Titans can look back at that performance and find a lot of things they did wrong. Some of the shot selection was poor. However, given that it is such a crucial stage of the tournament, they would have to quickly get themselves up and over this nightmarish evening.
DC batters made quick work of the chase as they gunned the target down in mere 8.4 overs. They did lose 4 wickets, providing the most ardent Titans' fans doses of hope and optimism. But it was only because they were determined to get the NRR back on track and hence threw caution to the wind.
8.5 Noor Ahmad to Sumit Kumar, FOUR! That's it, Delhi Capitals thrash Gujarat Titans and pick up their second win in a row. Good length on the leg-stump, Sumit on the backfoot looks to swipe again, but takes the inside edge past the keeper this time, runs away to fine-leg ropes to seal the game.
8.4 Noor Ahmad to Sumit Kumar, OH! Short and just outside the off-stump, Sumit waits to cut that one away but gets beaten again.
8.3 Noor Ahmad to Sumit Kumar, OH! Good length, angling it across on the fourth stump. Sumit went for a big swipe and misses.
8.2 Noor Ahmad to Sumit Kumar, FOUR! Dishes out a half-tracker and gets punished deservedly. Short and wide, Sumit waits and hammered it through extra-cover, races away to the ropes.
8.1 Noor Ahmad to Sumit Kumar, good length on the leg-stump. Sumit presses forward and defends it happily into the on-side.
Delhi Capitals are a one blow away from completing a thumping victory. They have gunned this target down as fast as the Cric Rocket app provides you scores and updates.

7.6 Rashid Khan to Rishabh Pant, good length outside the off-stump, Pant gave himself some room and cuts it to backward point for a dot.
7.5 Rashid Khan to Rishabh Pant, OH! Floated a full delivery on the stumps, Pant has a big heave across the line, but takes the inside edge to short fine-leg for no run.
That should have been taken. Spencer Johnson was running backward from short fine and misjudged the ball completely as it came swirling down.
