George Hankins 48*(22) | Mohammad Irfan 2/7(2) Scott Simpson 33(15) | Matthew Webb 2/18(1.5)
Hornchurch get over the line with 7 balls to spare and we have brand new ECL Champions as the club from England gets their hands around the trophy for the very first time after ending up one step short last time.
Ecstatic scenes out in the middle as the Hornchurch players rejoice in delight, happiness to go with some tears of joy.
Hornchurch have by far been the best team throughout the championship week and have turned up to the final and been as comprehensive as it can get.
Chasing 94, the openers, George Hankins and Jalpesh VIjay made sure there were no hiccups as they stitched a 50-run partnership inside 4 overs.
There were a couple of quick wickets but it was always a matter of time before Hornchurch went past the finishing line. George Hankins was the cool head out in the middle and he stayed at the crease till the end and saw his team home.
Old Victorians needed a miracle to defend this total but they could not get one. They gave it their all with Matthew Webb getting a couple of wickets but 93 was never going to be enough.
A whole lot of credit needs to go to the Hornchurch bowlers, starting with Mohammad Irfan, who started it all with a wicket off the first ball when he dismissed the best batter of the season, Jonty Jenner before scalping another one a couple of deliveries later. Lesbourne Edwards, Garry Griffiths and Harry Hankins also shared the wickets amongst themselves as Hornchurch were clinical and truly the better team on display.
8.5 Matthew Webb to George Hankins, SIX! THE EUROPEAN CRICKET LEAGUE HEADS TO ENGLAND FOR THE FIRST TIME! Hornchurch - agonizingly close to the title the last year, creep past the line with time to spare! Hankins, Edwards, and the rest of the Hornchurch outfit absolutely erupt in joy right after Hankins pumped this short of length delivery around off right across the line, clearing the ropes at mid wicket! A moment to savour for the team from England, as Hornchurch lay their hands on that ECL trophy having claimed victory over the Old Victorians by 7 wickets in the final!
8.4 Matthew Webb to Lesbourne Edwards, on a length angled across, dabbed towards the man at deep third. Just a single
Lesbourne Edwards, LHB, is the new batter.
Surely, there is no twist in the tale at this stage. Matthew Webb gets his second wicket as Adeel Malik goes
8.3 Matthew Webb to Adeel Malik, POUCHED! Malik perishes trying to hit that glory shot! Banged in short outside off, Malik looked to slog this across the line, didn't get all of it. The man at deep mid wicket came in and took this one safely!
Adeel Malik c Theo Pullman b Matthew Webb 14 (15b, 2x4, 0x6).
8.2 Matthew Webb to Adeel Malik, back of a length on off, Malik looked to charge down the wicket, ends up fending this towards point. Declines the run as well
8.1 Matthew Webb to George Hankins, back of a length delivery outside off, dabbed towards cover-point for a run
Matthew Webb [1.0-0-10-1] is back into the attack.
It is just taking a bit more time as Hornchurch are taking their own little time to get the job done. 7 needed off 12 deliveries, pretty sure they won't want to take it to the last over.

7.1 Julius Sumerauer to George Hankins, short of a length outside off, heaved towards cow corner for a single
Julius Sumerauer [1.0-0-11-0] is back into the attack.
We're just moments away now from Hornchurch getting past the finishing line, George Hankins and Adeel Malik are doing it very smartly for them.
