So that will be that for our coverage from the Maharaja Trophy 2023. Hubli Tigers managed to beat Mysore Warriors quite narrowly by just eight runs. We hope you enjoyed our coverage here at Sportskeeda. Allow us- Sooryanarayanan Sesha and Mohul Bhowmick- to bid goodbye. Until next time, take care and goodbye!
And off go the Tigers go to pick up their trophy and celebrate this win!
Here is what Manish Pandey, the winning captain of Hubli Tigers has to say: I am extremely pleased to be here. I have to say that this was a very good performance from us. The guys who were doing well needed to keep the momentum going, and I am happy with the way we did it. I am very happy to contribute. (About that Superman-like stop) As soon as the batsman hit the ball, I thought that it was going for a six, but when it started coming my way, I felt that I could stop it. The boys were brilliant today, and I have absolutely no words for them. The Karnataka State Cricket Association were unbelievable in organising the tournament this year. We had brilliant surfaces to play upon, and this was thanks to the excellent work put in by the groundstaff. All in all, a fantastic tournament.
So near yet so far for the Mysore Warriors. Karun Nair, the skipper, comes up to receive the runner-up trophy. What a season he has had and he can be might proud of how his team has played as well.
And here's what Karun Nair has to say: In the second innings we lost a few wickets in the middle where we shouldn't have. I should be taking responsibility for that and should have finished it off. We started off with a good team, played good cricket throughout the tournament and took the opportunities. A big thank you to Arjun sir and the Mysore Warriors family and the support staff for staying patient with us. Lot of positives - lot of youngsters came through and a lot of batters and bowlers put their hands up. It wasn't just one person putting their hand up. It was a total team effort. (Message to the support staff and team) Very big thank you for supporting us and providing us with the perfect environment. Thank you to the Mysore Warriors family. Would like to thank you all (fans) for coming this far and supporting this. Hopefully we can win it next year and bring the cup home to Mysore (thanks the fans in Kannada).
Mohammed Taha is the Player of the Tournament for scoring 448 runs with 6 fifties and 32 sixes this season.
Manish Pandey, the Hubli Tigers skipper, walks away with the Player of the Match award for his sensational half-century. Not to forget that brilliant save by the boundary ropes!
Praveen Dubey is adjudged the best fielder of the tournament for taking 13 catches this season.
Karun Nair walks away with the Orange Cap for topping the charts with 532 runs.
Manvanth Kumar L takes home the Purple Cap having bagged 22 wickets in the tournament. Tied with Abhilash Shetty of the Gulbarga Mystics but Manvanth gets it on account of a superior economy rate and average.
Time for the post-tournament presentations!
KL Shrijith: We did not expect them to come this close. They batted really well on a good surface, and hats off to them for running us this close. I am very happy with my form. If someone had told me coming into this tournament that I would have picked up as many runs as I did, I would not have believed them. I am very, very happy tonight!
Vidhwath Kaverappa: Reminded me of last year's final. I was in the other team but we won this time as well. Glad we pulled through this one as well. I knew I hadn't bowled to the plan and executed well in the first two overs. I had to pull up my socks and get us back into the game. I knew what I had to do looking at the ground dimensions. I stuck to it and it paid off. We've been practicing really hard with our fielding as well - thanks to Shabarish sir, he's been putting in a lot of work with us. They (Warriors) have a solid bunch of guys. It was a close game, could have gone either way. In the end it depended on which team held their nerves.
Mohammed Taha: I can't express the feeling right now. The boys have done well right from day 1 and they've just shown the caliber and what they're made of. That was unbelievable (the Pandey save). He's one of the best fielders probably in India. I can't express in words about Manish Pandey. We were positive throughout the 20 overs. We just wanted a couple of good overs and a couple of wickets in between. It hasn't sunk in. Thanks to the Almighty that I've been consistent with the bat. Hopefully I can continue this.
KC Cariappa: We knew that this will be a very intense game and it will go close. Finally won the trophy. It's an amazing feeling. We sometimes were in a bad situation and came back strong. Manvanth was brilliant. Seeing the last game we knew they'll come out very strong. I've seen so many times he (Pandey) has done this. We knew he can create magic. My main role was to bowl dot balls but they came strongly after me. We wanted Karun Nair's wicket - that was the main wicket for us.
Hubli Tigers beat Mysore Warriors by 8 runs!
Mohammed Taha 72 (40) | Manvanth Kumar L 3-32 Ravikumar Samarth 63 (35) | Codanda Ajit Karthik 2-33
Manish Pandey single-handedly won this trophy for Hubli, and I will not believe it even if you tell me otherwise. However, it was a team effort from the rest of the Tigers, but had the second delivery of the last over of this game gone for a maximum off the bat of Jagadeesha Suchith, it would have been game, set and match.
It was an excellent game of cricket, and one that advertised the brilliance of cricket in Karnataka completely. Although Mysore got off to a brilliant start thanks to Ravikumar Samarth and SU Karthik, and carried it forward with their skipper Karun Nair, they could not quite get over the finish line.
The game went right down to the wire, and it will be remembered for a long time to come. Mysore seemed to be in the game for long periods of time, but somehow, could not quite wrap it up. Hubli came on strongly in the final stages of the game, and for this they have to thank their young seamer Manvanth Kumar L.
It was quite strange to see Manvanth being held back for this long, but in the end, things fell into place. He bowled rather well and made sure that he did not give the batters any room to work with at all. His skipper Pandey backed him throughout and reaped the results for that.
Codanda Ajit Karthik and Jagadeesha Suchith tried their best to keep going in the face of all opposition but could not quite do so. The bowlers of Hubli managed to bowl in the right areas and give nothing away at all. In the end, Manish Pandey can be a very happy chappy with his side and take the trophy. They have deserved to win this!

19.6 Manvanth Kumar L to Shashikumar K, SWING AND A MISS! THE TIGERS ROAR AND ROAR LOUD! Bedlam at the Chinnaswamy! Slower one wide of off stump as Shashikumar has a heave across the line. He fails to connect and it sends the Tigers into sheer euphoria as the dugout storms into the ground. Absolute scenes and what an end to a match worthy of a finale. Hubli Tigers reign supreme and are crowned champions of the Maharaja Trophy 2023!
Shashikumar K, RHB, is the new batter.
Suchith departs, and Hubli have all but won this tournament!
19.5 Manvanth Kumar L to Jagadeesha Suchith, SLICED UP AND GONE! That's the game! Full length delivery outside the off stump as Suchith swings hard looking to clear the covers. Miscues it high before cover pedals back and keeps his eyes on the ball to hold on. He hurls the ball into the sky and the Tigers can sniff glory within sight!
