Ravindra Jadeja is the player of the match for picking up 2 wickets and his valuable contribution of 45 runs. Here is what he has to say: I'm playing an ODI after 8 months, hence I was looking to adapt as soon as possible. I was looking to pick wickets and build a partnership with KL and take the team over the line. We have been playing test cricket for a while. We need to alter our length, need to vary our pace and angles. I was also getting some turn and was telling myself to bowl in the right areas to trouble the batters. I was looking to build a partnership because if we build a big partnership, we might end up on the winning side and that's what exactly happened. Playing big shots on this wicket was tough and KL and I were discussing the same, which is why we took the game deep.

Hardik Pandya (India captain): Absolutely, we were under pressure while bowling and batting but we kept our composure and were able to come back. Once we got the momentum, we knew we could do well. Jaddu did what he was supposed to do. We all knew what he can do and coming back after 8 months, he partnered with KL really well and helped the team really well. Enjoyed my bowling, it was really hot. Enjoyed the batting too, would've loved to take the side over the line but the way Jaddu and KL did it it was amazing to watch it from the outside.

Steve Smith (Australia captain): We weren't expecting when we walked in to Wankhede, usually good scoring ground. India bowled pretty well, the way the ball swung around but credit to India. KL and Jadeja's partnership took the game away from us. We started pretty well, Mitch started off well, kept going but we lost too many wickets and didn't get ourselves good partnership but Jadeja and Rahul showed how it's done. May be 260 or 270 was par, ball was swinging even after 30 odd overs for both the teams but just didn't have enough runs on the board. Just one partnership needed, we could've slogged in the end, wasn't to be in the end.

KL Rahul: When I came in, three wickets were down and Starc was was swinging the ball, it's tough when he does that. Not really thinking about the runs, just wanted to play normal cricket shots and not searching for runs and along with that picked up a couple of boundaries and that helped calm my nerves. Whoever I batted with, Shubman, Hardik and Jadeja. The talk was really with not really get into the shell, just try to be positive and try to keep the scoreboard moving. The minute left-hander walked in, there were loose balls on offer, that can happen to any bowler but Jaddu batted well, runs fast and puts the pressure on the fielders. When we started off, we didn't really think the pacers would be in play but Shami was brilliant. I enjoy wicket-keeping, slow and low today, it's a challenge but I enjoy playing here.

An ODI captaincy debut to remember for Hardik Pandya as he kicks it off with a win. He will be mighty pleased with the way the team played and showed some excellent character. India have the upper hand in the series now and the visitors will be looking to level that in Vizag come Sunday.

The chase didn't get off the mark easily for India as they lost Ishan Kishan early. Virat Kohli started to play a few drives, some were hits whilst the others were misses. He too was dismissed and a delivery later, Suryakumar Yadav also lost his wicket to Starc.

KL Rahul joined Shubman Gill in the middle. Gill early on looked in great touch as he was striking the ball really well and had a couple of boundaries under his belt. He lost his wicket soon after Labuschagne took a blinder of a catch. Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul forged a partnership, but then Hardik Pandya was dismissed soon after. India was 83/5 and then in comes Jadeja.

KL Rahul and Jadeja started rebuilding the innings. They were 100 runs away from a win and the duo started dealing in ones and twos. KL was the primary aggressor as he played some exquisite strokes. Once KL got to his 50, he unlocked his aggressive self and smashed 10 runs in the last over bowled by Adam Zampa. Jadeja, too, chipped in with boundaries at regular intervals as India chased down the target with 61 balls to spare.

Australia will be disappointed in not being able to capitalise on a fine start. Mitchell Starc and Stoinis were the only bowlers to cause the Indian batters any trouble as they picked up 3 wickets and 2 wickets respectively. Adam Zampa, Cameron Green, Glenn Maxwell and Sean Abbott bowled fine spells, but couldn't help their side pick up wickets.

39.5 Mitchell Starc to Ravindra Jadeja, FOUR! THAT'S IT! India go 1-0 up in the three match ODI series. Length delivery on the middle and leg. Jadeja whacked it in the air but goes between mid-wicket and mid-on, finds the ropes in a flash.

100 run partnership comes up between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. This has been a partnership that has been very resilient and shown some dodgy character to help take the side over the line
