That brings the curtains down on our live coverage of this first WODI between India and New Zealand. For now, it's Soumarya Dutta signing off on behalf of Arya Sekhar Chakraborty. Good night and see you soon!
20:48 IST and Local Time- It has been a superb start for India Women to the Women's ODI series as they've beaten New Zealand Women in the first ODI and gone up 1-0. The bowlers have responded well and they will be confident going into the rest of the series. New Zealand though, will have a lot to ponder about. There were three run outs including the well set Maddy Green and the senior batter Sophie Devine. They could have been on the other end of the results if those errors could have been avoided. The margins are very thin here and they will be looking to bounce back in style for the next encounter.
Deepti Sharma (India Women) - "It's important as to how we start and I wanted to set the tone right. The mindset was to get the breakthroughs. I enjoyed batting with this bat and I had used it in the World Cup as well. We knew it from the start that we wanted to focus on curtailing the runs from the very beginning. (On the run out) It happened naturally and there wasn't a lot of communication between me and Yastika."
Smriti Mandhana (India Women Captain) - "It has been a tough few months but glad to start off with a win. I think we believed that we could do it from the very first ball of the run chase. We knew we were under par but Saima set the tone for us. She has been around with us for a while and she has been brilliant. Really happy for her and hopefully it's the start of big things for her. Deepti is a star and she knows what she is doing. Radha chipped in really well too. The wicket assisted the slower bowlers. "
Best fielder of the match- Saima Thakor (India Women)
Striker of the Match - Shafali Verma (India Women)
Sophie Devine (New Zealand captain): Look we did a fantastic job in restricting them to 227. We were really confident at the innings break and had our targets set. However we kept losing wickets regularly and even that valiant effort from Amelia Kerr didn't prove to be enough. Look when you take wickets, it slows the run rate but I genuinely feel it was a great cricket wicket. The way India started, it looked like we could end up chasing 350-400. Amelia has a quad issue but hopefully she will be up and running on Sunday along with the rest of the team.
Gamechanger of the Match- Amelia Kerr (New Zealand Women)
It's time for the Post Match Presentation now!
Saima Thakor: I think I have been very patient. This bunch is really amazing so that helped me a lot. It was a flat wicket to be honest but we bowled brilliantly. It was a batter's paradise. I was visualising the Bates delivery last night and I am thankful it came. Jemi spoke a lot as she has seen me through my cricketing journey. No better person to get the cap from her.
New Zealand Women 168 all out in 40.4 overs Brook Halliday 39 (55) | Radha Yadav 3/35 Maddy Green 32 (31) | Saima Thakor 2/26
We have had a thrilling encounter here in the first WODI and India Women have clinched this game by 59 runs in the end. They bowled superbly having being bowled out for a meagre 227 runs early on in the first innings. The spinners put up a great show as the pair of Radha Yadav and Deepti Sharma put New Zealand under an enormous amount of pressure. They kept losing too many wickets in clusters and in the end it was an easy victory for India Women with about 10 overs remaining.
New Zealand got a jolt early on in the innings as their captain Suzie Bates was dismissed by the debutant Saima Thakor. Georgia Plimmer didn't bother much and scored a flurry of boundaries including three in one over of Thakor. But post that India tightened up the screws and built on the pressure as Down was struck at one end. Deepti Sharma eventually broke the partnership by picking up Plimmer as New Zealand Women scored 40 in the powerplay for the loss of two wickets.
New Zealand Women lost a couple of more wickets as Sophie Devine and Lauren Down were dismissed leaving them reeling at 79/4.However Brooke Halliday and Maddy Green got together to build up a good partnership. They reduced the pressure on New Zealand and kept the scoreboard ticking over and as the two spinners were close to finishing off their spell, India resorted to the part time bowlers.
However it was one over from Saima Thakor that changed the complexion of the entire game. Two wickets fell in that over and both Green and Brooke had been dismissed. Once they were gone, the lower order surrendered cheaply and Amelia Kerr was left stranded on 25. For India Women, Radha Yadav was the pick of the bowlers with three scalps while the debutant Saima Thakor impressed with a couple of wickets. Deepti and Arundhati also picked up a wicket each while New Zealand Women had three runouts.
New Zealand Women have been bundled out for 168 here and India Women have won this first Women's ODI by 59 runs.
40.4 Radha Yadav to Eden Carson, WICKET! That should be the end of the game. Was a high full toss outside off, Carson cuts it towards the cover-point fielder and sets off for a single, yes and no between Amelia and Carson, in the end Radha Yadav couldn't quite gather the ball at the bowling end but it hits her hand and onto the stumps. India with a comprehensive 59 run win in the end to take a 1-0 lead in the three match series.
Eden Carson run out (Tejal Hasabnis/Radha Yadav) 0(1b, 0x4, 0x6)
Eden Carson, RHB, comes to the crease.
Radha Yadav gets the 9th one and the countdown begins for India Women! Penfold barely read that one and she looked clueless as it turned past her and crashed into the stumps.
40.3 Radha Yadav to Molly Penfold, WICKET! That was bowled at 64 kph drawing Penfold into a false shot. A well-tossed-up delivery under the eye line of the batter, pitches on a fuller-length around the leg stump and turns away to beat Penfold on the attempted flick, turns enough to beat her outside edge and rattles off and middle. India just one wicket away from a victory here.
Molly Penfold b Radha Yadav 1(4b, 0x4, 0x6)
40.2 Radha Yadav to Molly Penfold, flatter on a length a shade outside off, chopped away towards the backward point fielder.
40.1 Radha Yadav to Molly Penfield, much slower through the air on a goodish-length around middle, gets a leading edge but doesn't carry to the cover fielder.
Excellent over from Arundhati Reddy. We are heading into the final 10 overs of the game and New Zealand Women need 60 runs to win. Amelia Kerr is still in the game but the dismissal of Izzy Gaze in that over will make things harder for the visitors.
