So that is all from the Women's Asia Cup, 2022, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. It was a wonderful tournament with Thailand Women creating history by reaching the semi-finals and Sri Lanka Women making it to the final by winning an epic semi-final match. But in the end, India Women, who were expected to win from the very beginning, came up trumps and lived up to their expectation! Congratulations to Harmanpreet Kaur and her team for this achievement! For now, this is the trio of Shashwat, Soorya and Bidipto, saying good bye. Keep following Sportskeeda!
Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women captain, on the win in the Final and the Asia Cup: We are pleased with the performance. Our bowling and fielding was outstanding today, especially the fielding I felt. We kept the pressure on the Sri Lankan batting and that told, so that was really good from us. It is important to adapt to the conditions on offer, both with the ball and in the field, we did that today. With the bat, we weren't looking at the score that much, we were more interested in the gaps and played according to the merit of the ball and that worked well for us.
Chamari Athapaththu, the Sri Lankan captain, receives the runners-up cheque. Here's what she has to say: It was not a good batting display today in the final. We have the T20 World Cup next year. As a batting unit we have to stick to our plans but I'm happy with our bowling unit. We have a couple of young players so we just need to focus on our performances as a batting unit. We don't have a lot of experienced players but they will do well in the future.
Deepti Sharma has been adjudged the Player of the Tournament!
Deepti Sharma: I am really happy with my performance, is has come in a winning cause and the hard work has paid off. I focus on the basics, and that has come good too. These are slow pitches, and it requires skill to bat on them, so my work in the preparations before the tournament, with the bat, has also come good. I'm pretty happy for sure.
Renuka Singh Thakur, who else, is the Player of the Match for her stupendous spell of 3/5. Here's what she has to say: Definitely I'm very happy. The last few games I didn't bowl well. I practiced with the coaching staff. They're working very hard with me. I just focused on my basics. My whole team supported me well, as well as the captain and the coach.
The Indian players take a lap of honor to thank the crowd before clicking a selfie together. They're also clicking photographs with the groundstaff. Wonderful scenes and images at the end of what has been a magnificent tournament!
India Women - 71/2, beat Sri Lanka Women - 65/9, by 8 wickets with 11 overs and 3 balls to spare, and take the Women's Asia Cup T20, 2022!
It was a question of when rather than if and India made sure that they got the job over and done with in only 8.3 overs of their run chase!
Smriti Mandhana played beautifully on a tricky pitch to score an unbeaten half-century and the overall intent from the Indian batters was impressive, not thinking about taking the innings deep and finishing things off quickly, by denting the spirits of the opposition bowling, right from the start.
Sri Lanka Women did manage to get a couple of wickets, but that came in between some wonderful strokes from the batters. And one has to say that the Sri Lankan spinners were both off-line and off-length, and more keen on sliding them through rather than putting enough revs on the ball.
It was quite befitting of Harmanpreet Kaur to stay there at the crease when the winning runs were hit. Her 137th T20I game, that too in the Final of the Asia Cup, could not have been more special. And along with that, it was great to have Smriti Mandhana finish things off in style to get the winning runs.
Sri Lanka played tremendous cricket to get to the grand finale, but unfortunately, could not quite match up to the might of the Indians. India were simply terrific from start to finish today and were the deserving winners.
Jemimah Rodrigues finishes as the highest run scorer of the tournament with 217 runs and Deepti Sharma, along with, Inoka Ranaweera, finish with the most - 13 wickets - in the tournament.
India Women are the champions of Asia for the seventh time in the tournament's history! Fantastic performance from the women in blue! They came into the tournament as favourites, they leave the tournament as winners!
8.3 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Smriti Mandhana, SIX! THAT WILL BE THAT! In the slot on off stump and guess what happens to those, they go miles! Mandhana gets down on one knee and mauls it over the wide long on fence to complete a sensational and pretty one-sided victory!
Round the wicket now.
8.2 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Smriti Mandhana, FOUR! Length delivery outside off stump. Mandhana dances down the track again and bludgeons it past mid on for another boundary
8.1 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Harmanpreet Kaur, full delivery on leg stump. Harmanpreet comes forward and tucks the ball off her pads into the leg side for another single
8.1 Oshadi Ranasinghe to Harmanpreet Kaur, back of a length delivery way outside off stump. Harmanpreet lets it go and the umpire has no qualms in calling it a wide

Oshadhi Ranasinghe [2.0-0-18-0] is back into the attack.
Smriti Mandhana is playing some stunning shots! She has looked like batting on a batting paradise actually with her elegant strokeplay! Only 7 runs remain now for India.
