Two matches, two resounding performances and India have wrapped up yet another series on home soil. The West Indies have had to bear the brunt of two marauding performances but haven't helped themselves one bit with their own lackadaisical bowling and fielding displays.
The second ODI at the Kotambi Stadium saw India pile up a mammoth 358 after being asked to bat first, marking their joint highest total in the format. Harleen Deol was front and center of a stellar batting effort as she notched up her maiden ODI hundred, taking a massive step towards making that number 3 spot her on in the process.
Of course, you can never keep Smriti Mandhana away from the runs in this form as yet another rapid half-century came off the bat of the Indian vice-captain. Pratika Rawal was the surprise package though, raising a fifty of her own and with Jemimah Rodrigues also blitzing 52, India's batting has taken great shape for this series.
The West Indies have been poor though and India, while taking the positives out of these two performances, will do well to keep up this level of performance so that they replicate the same when tougher challenges beckon. By no means is it to say that the West Indies aren't enough of a challenge but the fact is that India are really good against most teams but when the big guns - Australia and England - come by, they've shown the propensity to crumble.
Expect changes for the final one-dayer which is now a dead rubber as India look to give their bench a go. Considering that they'd want Rawal and Deol to make those spots in the top-order their own, it's hard to see Uma Chetry get a look-in unless Mandhana is rested. Tejal Hasabnis is also seeking a game and so, Jemimah Rodrigues could also be given a break in that regard.
Renuka Singh Thakur and Priya Mishra have been excellent with the ball with Deepti Sharma also rekindling her best. Expect Minnu Mani and Tanuja Kanwer to come into the mix though with Saima Thakor perhaps making way for one of them at least. Titas Sadhu has bowled exceedingly well and India would want to give her as much game time as possible leading into the World Cup next year.
A couple of changes could be in order for the West Indfies too with Ashmini Munisar, Chinelle Henry and Mandy Mangru yet to get a game. Skipper Hayley Matthews was the standout performer with the bat as she notched up a brilliant hundred. She simply needs more from the rest of her colleagues though and a score from the bat of Qiana Joseph, Deandra Dottin and Nerissa Crafton would certainly do the visitors a world of good.
That said, they simply have to be much more accurate with the ball. Despite going wicketless, Karishma Ramharack was the only bowler to go at under 5 an over the other day. While it sums up the woes that West Indies have been subjected to, it does add pressure on the ones potentially coming in to fare better as the visitors look to avert a whitewash.
India are firm favorites again. No two ways about it. But the West Indies will look to express themselves now with nothing on the line. They may, in all likelihood, have to take the Qualifiers route to get to the World Cup next year having failed to pick up points in the first two games of this series that also counts for the ODI Championship. Either way, they will want to end the year on a happy note and hope that things fall into place a lot better than it has so far in the series.
