Commentary

Rain is here, there and everywhere. Not a good day for you if you're a cricket fan. Rain played spoilsport and the first day of the much-anticipated England vs South Africa test has been abandoned after just 32 overs. Now, there was a long rain delay here in Belfast and that made things easy for Ireland. Not to take away anything from the fact that they were so supreme with the ball up front to cause an Afghanistan batting collapse and made life difficult for the visitors.

Andrew Balbirine(Ireland Captain): A lot of results didn't go our way but we knew if we play good cricket then we have a chance. We are lucky that we have top-quality seamers. It's been a great summer. Onwards and upwards from now. Dockrell is playing brilliantly and he always hits the ball straight. Sometimes it's hard to bowl him. We started really well but things didn't go well afterwards but I am happy with the series win.

George Dockrell: I am enjoying at the moment. I want to hit with some power straight down the ground and obviously, I have worked on a lot. We are trying to be positive and execute things in the middle. It's been a fantastic summer and we will continue to play some good cricket. We will take some time off train again and look forward to what's ahead

Mohammad Nabi (Captain, Afghanistan): It happened again, it's part and parcel of the game and don't have much control over the rain. We were put under pressure early on and lost early wickets, hopefully if we had a full game, the result would've been different. The boys have been improving in all departments, it's part of the game that we were on the losing side today. Both with bat and ball, we did well, the fielding too, we've improved day by day, as a bowling group we had Rashid and Mujeeb bowled brilliantly!

Mark Adair: I think as a unit, we were pretty good, we bowled well in patches in the last few games but today we came together and bowled well. Bowling in the powerplay can be really tough but if you bend your back, you'll get returns. Look, the chats throughout the series has been the same, keep the intensity up always. It's been a long summer, nice to finish with a series win, looking forward to the T20 World Cup now.

Things just happened in a rapid manner once rain showed mercy and allowed some cricket to take place. Surely, it is Ireland's game when they were asked to chase 56 runs in 42 balls but considering that Afghanistan posses mystery spinners at their disposal, you can't take things for granted.

Fareed made things tough for Balbirine by bowling slow cutters before Mujeeb got rid of the Ireland skipper. Then, Paul Stirling smashed Rashid Khan for a maximum but Mujeeb ended his stay too. It's always tricky when you are chasing 7 runs in the last over but Dockrell kept his cool and smashed two consecutive boundaries to help the team cross the line

What a way to finish things off. Dockrell takes Ireland over the line and the hosts win the series 3-2. Hugs and Handshakes all around. Disappointment for Afghanistan and delight for Dockrell and Tector

6.4 Fareed Malik to George Dockrell, THAT'S IT! FOUR MORE! Ireland win the series 3-2 and agony for Afghanistan here. Dockrell seals the deal as he lofts it way over the mid-off fielder, runs away and picks out the ropes. Credit to Afghanistan for making this a thriller of a series, they came back from nowhere to square the series but Ireland held their nerve to win this thriller.
