That brings us to the end of our coverage for this match. With this dominant victory, Islamabad United consolidate their position at the top of the points table. Meanwhile, Peshawar Zalmi find themselves winless at the wooden spot. Yes, it is still very early in the tournament, but that net run rate of theirs has taken a beating and depicts a grim picture right now. They will have to find something special soon to turn things around.
Tomorrow the spotlight will move to the National Stadium in Karachi, where Karachi Kings lock horns against Quetta Gladiators. The match begins at 8:00 PM local time [8:30 PM IST]. Join us before that for the build-up. For now, it is the commentary duo of Darpan Tikiya and Arya Sekhar Chakraborty waving you goodbye!
Babar Azam (Peshawar Zalmi captain): "I think, the execution hasn't been there be it batting or bowling. We are not able to utilise the first six overs. Lots of matches left and will be hoping to not repeat these mistakes. The think tank is trying to use their brain and we are trying to take experience from Mushi bhai. The pressure will be there for youngsters, it's about backing them well. It is good for them as fast as they learn these things. We would want to rectify our mistakes in this break. We have to take it a positive manner."
Shadab Khan (Islamabad United captain): "Credit goes to Sahibzada Farhan. The hard-work he put in behind the scenes. Sometimes, when a player is not able ton perform, people think that he is not working hard. Today, it came off. I am happy for him. We had three-four partnerships. It was not a 240 pitch. But credit goes to how Sahibzada and others played. It helps having many options. Sometimes a bowler can get hit. But we have the depth, in both batting and bowling. Even Mohammad Nawaz, he came in as a substitute and picked four catches. So that is the depth."
Sahibzada Farhan is also the Player of the Match. He says: "First of all thanks to the almighty. I want to give a special thanks to Fakhar Zaman. He told me, 'You have been fantastic in domestic cricket. Just do the same things'. And it came off. Credit also goes for to the Islamabad United management. This is how I will continue playing. That is what T20 demands. This is my first PSL Player of the Match. I am super happy."
11:57 PM local time, 12:27 AM IST | Sahibzada Farhan gets the Hanif Mohammad cap (the leading scorer of the tournament).
11:41 PM local time, 12:11 AM IST | Islamabad United win by 102 runs
Sahibzada Farhan 106 (52) | Imad Wasim 3/26 (4) Mohammad Haris 87 (47) | Alzarri Joseph 2/39 (4)
The unstoppable march of the Islamabad United juggernaut continues. They have now strung together seven consecutive victories in the PSL. Tonight, they have not just secured a win, but handed Peshawar Zalmi a ruthless mauling.
It was all set up by a belligerent knock from Sahibzada Farhan, who became the first Pakistani batter to score four T20 centuries in a calendar year tonight. And remember, we are only in April. His switching of gears wasn't progressive. After he had a couple of sighters, he turned on mode turbo and there was no looking back. The feet movement was minimal. Though, Farhan will tell you that that is what helps him stay sturdy. The ball striking was ferocious and the boundaries at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium not big enough to contain him.
Munro played an innings of vigor too. Salman, Holder and Dwarshuis chipped in with effervescent cameos at the end to take the score to 243. Alzarri Joseph was the only bowler who seemed to have held his own, in front of the carnage that Farhan and his mates dished out. He finished with figures of 2/39 off his four overs.
Then, the run chase went nowhere. Babar Azam was dismissed off his third ball, Owen failed to leave an impression and the short stays of Saim Ayub and Tom Kohler-Cadmore were scratchy at best. Very soon, Zalmi found themselves huffing an puffing like a rookie mountaineer at the base of Everest. The only positive for the tonight was Mohammad Haris' 47-ball-87. He was the only batter who showed any semblance of fight. His shot making was brash at times, but that is what is needed when you are trying to gun down 244. Alas, he could not convert it into a century.
For United, every bowler that the skipper went to delivered. Nobody returned wicketless. Even young Saad Masood, who was bowling for the first time in PSL got himself the wicket of George Linde. Imad Wasim ended up with the best figures with 3/26 against his name.
Mohammad Ali has been dismissed for 3 runs off 9 balls
18.2 Ben Dwarshuis to Mohammad Ali, WICKET! Islamabad United win by 102 runs. A perfect delivery to end the match. Back of a length delivery around off which straightens a bit and squares up Ali, he plays inside the line of the ball, gets beaten and the ball crashes into the off-stump.
18.1 Ben Dwarshuis to Mohammad Ali, on a fuller-length well wide outside off, Ali goes flashing at that and gets beaten.
Back to Ben Dwarshuis [2-0-23-1]
A close lbw shout, a dropped catch and a missed stumping chance in that over. United are not looking to finish this one quickly.
