As was expected, Marsa did not coast to a comfortable win over Mater Dei in this game. They made a mockery of themselves and their batting skills. Nobody would have expected them to take this game right down to the last over, and yet they did. The target that they were set was by no means a challenging one, and this will help them go higher up in the league standings.
Mater Dei will hope that their players come back in time for the next game, and that they are spared the embarrassment of fielding with just eight players on the park. Marsa will be pleased with their performance but they will feel that they could have done better with the ball in hand. They gave away too many runs.
With the bat too, they will feel that they could have knocked the runs off sooner, as it would have given their Net Run Rate a big boost. They made a proper meal of the chase towards the end, losing wickets in a flurry. They will intend to do better with the bat in hand. The game went down to the golden ball after the two teams tied on the same score at the end.
And that is when Mater Dei showcased their true potential and kept the Marsa batters to just one run. This was one of the finest underdog wins in all of history! Mata Der, with just eight men, managed to beat Marsa, who had a full-fledged lineup.
0.1 Azeem Sathi to Farhan Masih, WHAT A WIN FOR MATER DEI! With only 6 players, Mater Dei register a famous win! Full toss on middle. Flicked away to mid-wicket from the crease. The batters try to run through for two after completing the single. But the inevitable RUN OUT does happen at the non-striker's end!
Absolute scenes here in Marsa! The game goes down to a Golden Ball.
