It was always tough to defend such a below-par total. But the Southern Crusaders made it look even more paltry with their dominant display with the bat. They hardly put a foot wrong in the chase and achieved the target with 3.4 overs to spare, giving a good boost to their net run rate early in the tournament.

Michael Goonetilleke was the aggressor early in the innings. He scored a couple of boundaries and kept the scoring rate going. Ryan Bastiansz joined in the attack with a couple of lusty blows. Much like the first innings of the match, the Mater Dei bowlers gave away plenty of extras to make the chase easier, if it wasn't already the case. The two towering sixes from Mithila Avishka at the end helped to end what was a sorry display from the Mater Dei side.

The only hope for Mater Dei was to pick up some early wickets. But the bowlers showed no signs of discipline. They conceded plenty of extras and erred in length consistently, serving up boundary balls in the process. Faisal Naeem was the solitary wicket-taker in the match for Mater Dei.
