Thank you for joining me, Mohul Bhowmick and my partner Srivathsa Vennelaganti, for this game here on Sportskeeda. Until next time, goodbye!
Beth Mooney, Player of the Match: It was good to get this knock under my belt. Felt nice to have the girls do well too. It was an all-round team effort and we are very pleased with ourselves. Marizanne (Kapp) played really well and gave me a lot of support.
Perth Scorchers Women beat Melbourne Renegades Women by 104 runs! Beth Mooney 90 (58) | Piepa Cleary 2-6 Marizanne Kapp 68 (34) | Alana King 2-18
The Scorchers were the better side by a big margin here in the first game played at the Junction Oval in Melbourne on a busy Saturday. When batting first, they put up a massive total of 192 runs thanks to blistering knocks from Beth Mooney and Marizanne Kapp. While both these batters scored impressive half-centuries, the former was unfortunate to get out for 90 off the last ball of the innings.
Kapp played the perfect foil to Mooney and smashed everything out of the park in the shortened boundaries of the Junction Oval. None of the bowlers of the Renegades merits a mention, least of all Hayley Matthews, who had a forgettable game indeed. She did not do well with the bat either, and a lot was expected of her being the overseas star.
Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu too was expected to be amongst the runs, but she fell cheaply to a run-out and after that, the rest of the Renegades’ batters just folded. Skipper Sophie Molineux tried her best to lend a helping hand, but she too had to perish cheaply.
Erica Kershaw, who came down the order, smashed a couple out of the park later on in the game, but things did not get better for the Renegades. As things stand, they have lost eight games this season, and their Net Run Rate is pitiable to say the least. The Scorchers were the better side by a long way today!

17.3 Marizanne Kapp to Carly Leeson, OUT! Scorchers have handed Renegades a severe beating. Short outside off, Leeson pulls and top-edges it straight up, Mooney goes back and takes it

The Renegades do not have a lot to look forward to. Just three overs left in this game.
