Well, the Renegades would have liked to win this game in more convincing fashion. Nonetheless, it's the four points that matter in the end, no matter how you get them. Second win of the season for them and the Stars' bowlers did ensure that it did not come as easily for them though. They started well with the ball, keeping things tight up front. However, it was the partnership between Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch that really set the chase up for the Renegades. Finch getting a much-needed half-century as well.
The Melbourne Stars tried hard and it is only fair to appreciate their bowlers for taking the game as long as into the 18th over with just 126 to play with. It is the batting that disappointed and probably a few more runs on the board could have meant a different story for them. However, the fight that they put up is indeed a positive that they can take away from this contest. The Renegades were cruising and in control until the double strike from Tom O'Connell, followed by a wicket from Haris Rauf in quick succession put the Stars back in the game for a brief stage.
Although, Mackenzie Harvey and James Seymour held their nerves to help the Renegades finish a game that was well and truly theirs to win. With this victory, they also move above the Stars in the points table. The Renegades need to win every game from here on and this is going to give them the confidence that they need to do so as well. What looked to be a one-sided contest at the half-way mark did provide us with some thrill towards the end.
That is all we've got from this contest then. This is Rishab, and my good friend Soorya signing out for the moment. Stay safe and take care until next time!
Kane Richardson (Player of the Match): It is bittersweet I think. I feel for the boys that aren't here tonight. You want to win every game you can but it doesn't feel right tonight. Thoughts with the boys who aren't playing here. It doesn't feel right. We're rolling on to the next game at the moment. I don't know if there's something that can be done and hopefully they recover soon. We want to see the best players playing. Very young group so we've got to learn to win and it's good that two young guys got us over the line. We've had a tough couple of years but as I said, there's a lot worse going on with some of the others.
That is that then! The Renegades win the Melbourne Derby by five wickets in what did turn out to be a nervy run-chase for them. Harvey and Seymour keeping their cool to finish the game nicely for them in the end!

17.6 Haris Rauf to Mackenzie Harvey, FOUR! THAT WILL BE ALL! He has held his nerve amidst a nervy situation and fittingly, Harvey seals it in style. Width on offer on this back of a length delivery and he stands his ground to pound a cut square of the wicket and through the vacant real estate to send it blitzing to the ropes. Melbourne Renegades beat Melbourne Stars by 5 wickets with 2 overs to spare!
17.5 Haris Rauf to Mackenzie Harvey, OOH! Nasty bouncer from Haris - dug into the track and angling into the stumps and Harvey does well to somehow duck underneath it even as he doesn't bring his bat down with him. Brilliant leap from Rowe as he clings on.
17.4 Haris Rauf to Mackenzie Harvey, back of a length delivery angling into the leg-stump as he follows the batter guarded outside leg, Harvey has no room to work with and can only have a soft-handed prod towards mid-on.
17.3 Haris Rauf to James Seymour, full and angling into the off-stump, Seymour gets forward to drill it on the up towards mid-on before tearing across for a run.
17.2 Haris Rauf to Mackenzie Harvey, OOH! Dug into a hard length and angling into the stumps, Harvey gets into a tangle as he looks to help it with a swivel around the corner. The ball rolls towards point as he looks to steal a run before grounding his bat. A needless underarm throw concedes a run though!
17.1 Haris Rauf to Mackenzie Harvey, back of a length delivery angling into the stumps, Harvey is cramped for room as he hangs back and keeps it out with a jab towards cover.
Haris Rauf [3-0-21-1] back into the attack
James Seymour coming in as an X-factor sub has made the most of his opportunity. Some good batting from these two under pressure. The Renegades are now just a hit away from wrapping this contest up then!

16.6 Qais Ahmad to James Seymour, back of a length delivery outside off, Seymour camps back and throws his arms at it for a cut as backward point collects it to his right. Back-to-back dots!
16.5 Qais Ahmad to James Seymour, back over the wicket as he flights a googly on a back of a length radar, just outside off as Seymour hangs back and throws his arms at it for the ball to run towards short third man off the edge.
16.4 Qais Ahmad to James Seymour, FOUR! BRILLIANT IMPROV! Premeditates a reverse-sweep off a tossed up length delivery wide of off and places it up and over short third man before sending it racing through the outfield to the ropes. The 'Gades are nearly home now...
The target is now down to single digits, 8 more needed!
16.3 Qais Ahmad to James Seymour, around the wicket and flighted into a length outside off, Seymour steps down the track and lofts it over extra cover without enough timing. He clears the infield with ease though as the ball rolls into the deep for the batters to run two.
16.2 Qais Ahmad to Mackenzie Harvey, tossed up into a length outside off, Harvey leans into a push in front of point as he crosses over.
16.1 Qais Ahmad to Mackenzie Harvey, flighted into the corridor just outside off, Harvey leans forward for a drive and gets a thick outside edge that runs towards short third man.
