Match summary: Hobart Hurricanes beat Melbourne Stars by 38 runs.
'Happy birthday to you' is being rung out by the DJ for Amy Smith. She can celebrate with her teammates given the double-joy of wrapping up a comprehensive victory to boot after posting a competitive total of 152. The Stars would have fancied their chances though after a fine display against the same opponent yesterday.
Alice Capsey picked up from where she left off and tore into the bowlers in the powerplay. From using her feet to getting innovative with the reverse-hit, the precocious teenager was looking in ominous touch as the Stars racked up 35 in the four-over powerplay. But with Lauren Winfield-Hill going nowhere at the other end, it was a crawl through the middle-overs as the Hurricanes orchestrated a spin choke.
Every bowling change made by Elyse Villani worked a charm as Maisy Gibson and Smith tightened the leash. That the Stars took double the time to double their powerplay score meant that the equation got out of hands. More so, once Capsey departed owing to the need to kick on.
The chase just never got going thereafter. Winfield-Hill was put out of her struggles soon and once Annabel Sutherland holed out, it was the final nail in the coffin. Nicole Faltum tried hard but the equation was far too mountainous for the skipper alone to salvage and the Stars have been consigned to another defeat, putting their hopes of qualifying for the knockouts in serious jeopardy.
Two points clear of both the Strikers and the Scorchers and the Hurricanes are sitting pretty in third position. It's getting extremely tight now in the top half of the table and this is as crucial a couple of points as the Hobart side have picked up this tournament. They are looking the part ahead of their remaining two games alright.
High-fives all around and the Hurricanes are back to winning ways. As professional a defense as it can get and they take another step closer towards making the knockouts!

Just the last rites remain now at the Latrobe Recreation Ground. What a clinic this has been by the Hurricanes attack and they have bounced back brilliantly after a loss just about 24 hours ago or so.
