Well, the first of the double headers of this season's PSL turned out to be a humdinger. It was a record run chase, over 400 runs were scored. We have the second of the double header coming up in about 45 mins, do switch tabs to that. Until next time, this is, Pradeep Somashekar along with my partner Navjeevan Rajput signing off, take care and stay safe!
It's time for the presentations!
Mohammad Rizwan (Winning Captain, Multan Sultans): We planned our chase a bit better, they posted a huge total on board and they got more than what we anticipated in the end. At the end, when we came into bat, when I Babar bat we plan, the same thing it worked out well with Masood as well. Running between the wickets was good, ensured we never gave wicket to Rashid and it worked pretty well for us.
Shaheen Afridi (captain, Lahore Qalandars): I think it was a good match, credit goes to the Sultans openers, they gave a blistering start and end of the day cricket was better. We need to work on our fielding, we need to stop those two runs getting converted from singles. The bowling we need to focus on yorkers and land the ball in the right areas, it's just the first game of the tournament and we will make sure we correct mistakes and come back stronger.
Shan Masood has been adjudged the Player of the match for his sensational inning of 83!
Masood says, I think the basics mattered, we played similar practice match against Zalmi four or five days ago. We went about the same thing, respect their good bowlers, once we get set in, we went after. Running between the wickets, I don't like to run but Rizwan makes you run, it is a proper lung test as well, have to go down on your knees often and take a breather as well.
Multan Sultans won the game by 5 wickets in the end! Shan Masood 83(50) | Mohammad Rizwan 69(42) | Shaheen Afridi 4-0-40-3 | Rashid Khan 4-0-28-1
What a game of cricket we've witnessed. The game was getting tilted either ways till the last over. It was a game of two halves, the first one was in complete control of Sultans. The openers stitched a 150 run partnership to set the tone for the chase.
Rizwan in particular was too harsh on the bowlers at the start, kept taking that risk and scoring those boundaries. Later on, Masood joined him and then races past his score and notched up a fifty first and later Rizwan.
Qalandars until that 15th over were clueless but then Rashid Khan breaks through and Qalandars thought they had a sniff from there on. The second halve of the game was, Sultans lost quick wickets of Rizwan, Rossouw, David and Maqsood at the wrong time and they needed 16 runs to chase in the final but Khushdil Shah had simple plan in mind, score boundaries of each deliveries and finish things off, he did exactly that.
Rauf failed to hold on to his nerve, he was either too full or too short and Khushdil capitalized on that and took their team home, finished the game in style with a maximum. Credit has to be given to Shaheen Afridi for setting up a brilliant final over, he picked up two wickets in that penultimate over and gave away just 1 run but Rauf just couldn't handle the pressure.
Qalandars need to pick themselves from this loss, they need work on their bowling a bit, it's just the first game of the tournament for them. Sultans on the other hand have won back to back games and the title defense is going strong though!
WHAT A FINISH! WHAT A FINISH! Khushdil Shah, the star with the bat, clobbered 18 runs of the four deliveries and Qalandars can't believe it. They had the game under their control in that last over but Rauf gave it away! Turned out to be a thriller!
19.4 Haris Rauf to Khushdil Shah, SHAH FINISHES THE GAME OFF IN STYLE!! Back of a length and outside off, Willey smashes that over extra cover and that one clears the fence to seal the deal. What a high-scoring thriller this turned out to be.
THREE IN A ROW! Rauf can't believe, neither the fans, unbelievable shots from Khushdil Shah! Sultans need 4 off 3 now!
19.3 Haris Rauf to Khushdil Shah, THREE IN A ROW!! SULTANS ARE BACK IN THIS CONTEST!! Full and wide yorker outside off, Khushdil fetches for it and slices that away along the ground to deep cover-point and finds the fence yet again. Just 4 runs needed from 3 balls now!!
Back to back boundaries. Khushdil Shah you beauty! Rauf erring in lengths and getting punished! Sultans now back in the game!
19.2 Haris Rauf to Khushdil Shah, CREAMED AWAY!! Very full and just outside off, Khushdil creates room and smashes that through extra cover and finds the ropes along the ground once again. Down to 8 runs needed from 4 balls now!!
19.1 Haris Rauf to Khushdil Shah, SMASHED!! Full toss close to the waistline, Willey flat bats it down the ground and finds the ropes. 12 runs needed from 5 balls!!
Sultans need 16 off the final over! Rauf to finish this off!
David Willey, LHB is the new batter in the middle!
Gone, Qalandars are right back in the game, dot balls and couple of wickets. Pressure on the new batter of Sultans. Sultans dug-out now seems tensed!

18.6 Shaheen Afridi to Sohaib Maqsood, ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST!! SULTANS FALLING APART WHEN IT MATTERS THE MOST!! Full and just outside off, Maqsood looks to power that but ends up slicing it flat to Hafeez at point who takes a good low catch moving forward!
Sohaib Maqsood c Mohammad Hafeez b Shaheen Shah Afridi 20 (17b 2x4 1x6)
18.5 Shaheen Afridi to Sohaib Maqsood, full and angling across outside off, Maqsood steps aside to create room but Afridi bowls it wide outside off
Sultans need 16 from 8 now!
Khushdil Shah, LHB is the new man in!
Huge wicket in the context of the game, Tim David departs and yes, there is still hope for the Qalandars. They believe! The front foot was so close but the benefit of the doubt goes to the bowler!
18.4 Shaheen Afridi to Tim David, GOT HIM THIS TIME!! DRAMA!! Low full toss on the stumps, Tim tries to flick it but ends up chipping it down to long-on. The sweeper in the deep gets under that one and completes a crucial catch!!
The third umpire checks up the front foot and Afridi had just enough to keep some part of his foot behind the line!
